Friday Thoughts October 21st

Posted on Oct 24, 2016

Dear Parents,

What a beautiful week, with students going out for recess every day.  We hope the beautiful weather continues for awhile!

Our students showed their support for Beau Dowling all week by wearing “Bows for Beau.”  Thank you, fourth grade girls for organizing this.

On Tuesday, our junior high students headed to St. Rita for a retreat, and our second graders went to the Shedd Aquarium.

On Wednesday, representatives from our local co-ed schools met with our 8th graders to discuss high school options.

Next week, parents of 8th graders will meet in Kane hall on Monday at 8 p.m. to plan the 8th grade events.

On Thursday, our students will “Read for the Record."  Read for the Record is a national campaign to promote reading readiness.  This year’s campaign book is The Bear Ate Your Sandwich by Julia Sarcone-Roach.  We will be doing a variety of activities related to this story here at school, but it’s also a good day to enjoy any story with your child.

Today, STAR Reading Reports for 2nd through 8th grade students are going home with students.  We use the STAR to measure our students’ gains over time in reading comprehension.  The report is just one measure of your child’s reading ability.  The ZPD (Zone of Proximinal Development) found on this form helps Mrs. Funk select appropriate reading materials that are at a comfortable yet challenging level for each individual student.   Students are tested twice a year, in the fall and again in the spring.

ETC Registration for November is now open.  Click here for the registration form.  The deadline for registration is Thursday, October 27th.

You received an email yesterday asking you to sign up for a time slot for parent teacher conferences. Over 250 families have already signed up!  If you haven’t yet done so, and you have one or more full-time students or a part-time preschooler in Ms. Fadden’s or Mrs. Altman’s class, please click here to select a time slot.

If you have a part-time preschooler in Mrs. Power’s class, please click here to select a time slot.

Thank you, and have a wonderful weekend!
