Friday Thoughts April 28 2017

Posted on Apr 28, 2017

Dear Falcon Families,

If brain power was visible, the school would be glowing this week because of the hard work our students in grades 3-8 displayed on the Aspire Tests. As our scholars no doubt told you, most of the tests are quite challenging and demand strong thinking and writing skills. All seemed to handle them well. Unlike last year when the testing/scoring company was so slow, we hope to have the results before the end of the school year.

Now on to the multitude of events that fill the May calendar and mark the “beginning of the end” of this academic year.

We begin the week with a celebration of the fortieth anniversary of priesthood for Father Jack Sullivan, one of the associate pastors here at St. John Fisher. If you have met Father Jack, you probably know that his mind is like a rolodex and he no doubt knows you or a close relative. Please join us at the 12:00 Mass on Sunday. A lovely reception will follow. All are most welcome.

On Tuesday, all are welcome to wear a red shirt and join with schools in our area to support the Special Olympics Program. Money raised will be directed to the Special Olympics Program and especially the program at Mt. Greenwood Park. If you have a child, neighbor or relative who participates in that program, you are aware of the amazing work that is done for these athletes. Please be generous and send $1.00 or more to show our gratitude and support. We will also be sending leaders from our SOAR program and our homework club tutors to help at the Olympics that day.

Next Wednesday is Special Lunch Day. Barraco’s is on the menu.

Saturday is one of the happiest and holiest days of the year in our parish as our second graders celebrate their First Communion. I doubt there is any parish in the archdiocese or beyond that has a more beautiful celebration of this important sacrament. Please pray with and for these future saints and their families that the graces and blessings so evident that day will grow and flourish for the rest of their lives. If you have a minute that morning, (Mass is at 11:00) know you are most welcome to come.

Mark your calendar for Wednesday, May 10, when our drama club presents the Broadway Musical, ANNIE. The SJF version promises to be spectacular with a lively cast and talented crew capturing the energy and enthusiasm of this famous show. There will be student performances for the students on Thursday, May 11.
