FSA
The goal of the FSA is to foster a sense of community between the parents, students and faculty of St. John Fisher School. We are a service organization that provides opportunities to better know each other and enjoy our school experience. We sponsor many events throughout the year.  For complete details and information about volunteering, see the FSA Back to School Packet.

Please consider getting involved in the FSA this year!

We are very interested in opening up the dialogue between parents, students and the faculty of SJF, so please come to the meetings and bring your thoughts and ideas! It is a great way to find out what is happening at school, and to meet new people.

New Parent Information
We’ve written a brief explanation of SJF and FSA events, programs and routines to try and help parents who are new to the school. If you ever have any further questions, please call any of the FSA board members for help.

Classroom Locations & Drop-Off

The Main Office-Parents and all visitors need to check in at the office if they are entering the school. In an attempt to reduce classroom interruptions, the office no longer accepts forgotten lunches, homework or clothing during the school day.

Manna-Many local merchants and hundreds of other retail stores and businesses participate in the Manna coupon program. When you purchase certificates to spend at the store, your family earns tuition rebates. Manna is sold after masses on Saturday and Sunday, and 4 days during the week.

Market Day-Market Day is an important fundraiser for the school. Each month the students will bring home a Market Day pamphlet and order form. You may also order online at http://www.marketday.com/. Pick up for the purchased food items is on one Saturday morning a month (the date is listed on the back of the pamphlet).

Room Parent-FSA sends out a request for Room Parent volunteers in May and again in August. One or 2 parents are assigned to each classroom to assist the teacher in whatever they may need. Generally, these volunteers organize teacher gifts, class parties, market day, and teacher breakfast volunteers. They may assist with other classroom activities if the classroom teacher asks.

Teacher Breakfasts-Once a month, the teachers are treated to a special breakfast at SJF. Each month, a different grade organizes this day. Ask our room parent which month your grade is assigned. Parents bring in breakfast treats on that day.

Skating Party-The skating party is usually held the first Thursday of school in the evening. Everyone is welcome to attend. There are separate skating areas for younger and older children. Younger children only are allowed to bring scooters or bikes to ride.

Magazine Sales Drive-This is FSA’s most important fundraiser. The school receives 40% of all magazine sales and 50% of all food and gift item sales. This amount will also be deducted from our SJF Mandatory Fundraising Fee. (You will be reimbursed on your tuition bill later in the year). The magazine drive is held in October. Students will receive a packet of information from school. You may also order magazines online instead of filling out the packet. If you do so, please print out a copy of your receipt.

Yearbook-The yearbook is assembled as part of a student group after school. All parents are invited to send in pictures to be put into the yearbook. Hard copies of the pictures are required. Please put them into an envelope with your child’s name, grade and “Yearbook” on the front of the envelope.

Christmas Crafts-Christmas Crafts is held during the beginning of December in the evening. Students may come with an adult to make a variety of crafts for the holidays. It is a good idea to bring a box to carry the finished crafts home in.

Sacks For Santa-This is a week-long toy drive for Catholic Charities held at the beginning of December. Students may purchase unwrapped toys or gift cards and bring them to their classroom. At the end of a week a truck comes to collect the gifts. This is different than “adopt a family”.

Candlelight Bowl-This is a parent night out in February. It is a Saturday night of bowling, pizza, beer and laughs at Bleekers on 95th Street. You may sign up in a bowling group, or get assigned to a group for the night.

Book Fair-The Book Fair is sponsored by Scholastic Books. Kane Hall is turned into a showcase for new books. Parents are invited with their kids on the Sunday it opens. The Fair is meant to encourage reading in the home, and to raise funds for SJF. (Traditionally it has been held on the 1st Sunday of Catholic Schools Week, but this year due to SJF’s 60th Anniversary events it will be held in April). You may buy books and other items on this day. The students will also go to the fair with their classes during the first part of the week. You may send them with money to buy books at that time as well. There is also a “Teacher Wish List” board at the fair. You may see what books your child’s teacher is seeking, and give the book as a gift for the class.

Confirmation Reception-This is held after Confirmation mass and is organized by 7th grade parents.

Bake Sale-The bake sale is held just before the beginning of Lent. Parents are asked to contribute baked goods or candy to the sale. Students bring money the day of the sale to purchase items.

Fisher Feet Feat-This is an annual fundraiser for SJF held in the spring. Pledge sheets are sent home with the students. Each family is asked to pledge. In addition, students are encouraged to ask family, friends, and neighbors to pledge or contribute. Students receive a t-shirt on the day of the event. They walk around the school area and participate in a number of dances and games to boost school spirit.

Ice-Cream Social-The ice-cream social is held during one of the last days of school. Students go to Kane Hall with their class and receive an ice-cream sundae! Parents and SJF alumni scoop the ice-cream.

Mother-Daughter Talk-This is a special evening reserved for 5th and 6th grade girls and their mothers. A speaker from Little Company of Mary facilitates a discussion of pubescent girls’ and women’s health.

Special Lunch-Special Lunch is held on the 1st Wednesday of every month (except September and June). Order forms for the entire semester are sent out in September, and December. Students may order food from outside restaurants for special lunch days. On Special Lunch days, parents are invited to come help hand out lunches. Just go to Kane hall anytime between 10am and noon. (You may bring younger children who are not in school yet. They can help too or just watch!)

Uniform Exchange-You may donate uniforms you are no longer using to the exchange, or pick one up for current use. Please call Monica Damato. Please donate or look for Confirmation and Graduation gowns here as well.

Target Visa, Box Tops- The school collects Box Tops throughout the year. Each top is worth $.10 to the school. Another way for you to help out SJF while you are shopping is to obtain a Target Visa credit card, go online and designate SJF as the school you would like to help. The school will receive a percentage of everything you spend.

Women’s Club-This is a SJF social group for new and long-time members of the parish. There are events or meetings each month. Check The Backpack section of the website for information. The Woman’s Club also hosts the Christmas Luncheon the first Saturday in December at Ridge Country Club.

Holy Name Society-This is a SJF social group for the men of the parish. There are events or meetings each month. Check The Backpack section of the website for information.

Mother Spiritual Group- This is a spiritual group for Mothers held the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month in the rectory basement. There is a babysitter for your children and all mothers are welcome.

Football games and other sports-The Athletic Board schedules and coordinates games for the year. Check the “Athletics” section on the website for team sports info, dates and times of games.

Music at SJF-There are many different opportunities to learn music at SJF. The school offers band lessons in the upper grades. Lessons are also offered through the school with the Judy Lei Strings program. Also, the Irish Music School of Chicago teaches traditional Irish fiddle and tin whistle after school.

Book Day-This day is held in August, generally 2 weeks before school starts. Parents pay tuition and fees to begin the school year, and students find out who their teachers are. Parents also can pick up their pre-ordered school supplies, order milk for the year, register for Manna, buy Mega Bracelets for Fisher Fest, and read through their SJF info folder and handbook.
