Geometric Design in Architecture A Project for 8th Graders |
|
| This is a two-part project in which you will
get to express your creativity and your awareness of the existence of
geometric shape in architecture around the world. First, you will
select a structure or building from this
list.
Get your choice approved by your teacher.
Step One. Prepare a single powerpoint slide. On this slide, you will place a large picture of your building or structure. Then you will use animated autoshapes, lines and textboxes to diagram and label the geometric figures that you see in this building. Here is a sample of the powerpoint. (Click "open," then click through the slide show. Close the powerpoint when you are finished to return here). Of course, yours will be much more detailed! You will find a minimum of 15 geometric shapes/terms, or more to earn extra credit. There are many geometric figures, including polyhedra, reflections, spheres, cylinders, and much more that we have not yet covered. Please feel free to refer to this Geometry Dictionary or this Math Dictionary to learn about some new geometric terms. Step Two is a written report. The instructions can be found here.
