Message from Mr. Jim Fornaciari 10/14/18

Dear SJF Parents,

As the temperatures dropped towards the end of last week, our classrooms became much more comfortable. Although our students enjoy the warmth of summer, they seemed relieved that fall has finally arrived. The falling temperatures did more than make classrooms more comfortable. They also helped to remind us that the school year is moving by quickly.

Being short of time is something many of us seem to experience. In today’s busy world it seems like there is never enough time to complete our long “to do list”. Many of our students also face difficulties in navigating school and family responsibilities. For some young people it might be easy to let these tasks mount up to the point of capitulation. How can we help our children avoid this trap?

We can start by demonstrating that every day counts. Many of us have worked with someone that manages to make something out of the most challenging of days. These people seem to have embraced the mindset of living life to the fullest. They look at each day as another opportunity. This sounds much easier than it really is. What is their secret? United States Olympian Meghan O’Leary came to understand and appreciate the importance of attacking each day. Her story offers some insight which may help our students or friends overcome the growing feeling of giving up. Please take a few minutes to view Meghan O’Leary’s Ted Talk (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sz_-3l7VqXQ).

As we move into the heart of October our staff is busy finalizing plans for a number of important fall events. These include several exciting field trip opportunities for our students. We also have a team of teachers putting together plans for a very special Veterans Day Celebration to be held on November 9th. Please continue to follow School Messenger for details on all of these events. We are also busy planning for Parent Teacher Conferences (11/19 & 11/20). You will receive information via School Messenger about the registration process for this important two- day event in the next few weeks.

Finally, please consider joining us for our 2nd all school mass on Friday October 19th at 1:00 PM. Our students will be praying alongside their “prayer partners”. Parents are encouraged to worship together with our students and staff.

Thank You,

Jim Fornaciari
