5th Grader Ava Kintz

This year, our school theme is “Fly Like a Falcon.” Falcons SOAR above, capturing an aerial view of what is going on below. We are encouraging our school community to “SOAR above” things that might bring us down, not allowing us to be our best selves. We are on a school-wide crusade to “Fly Like a Falcon”, lifting one another up, celebrating the positive interactions and kind behavior that our students and staff demonstrate each and every day. This week we recognize fifth grader, Ava Kintz.

As many of you are aware, Ms. Dunlavy, our 5th grade ELA teacher was recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer. This shocking news was obviously so difficult to digest not only for Ms. Dunlavy, but for all of those who love her. Learning of this news really impacted her students. As a group, the fifth graders wanted to show their sign of love and support. One idea that the group of students had was to dye a section of their hair pink as an outward symbol of solidarity and support. This of course goes against the dress code policy in our student handbook. However, Ava stepped up as the leader of the group and took the time to write me a very impressive persuasive letter, requesting this temporary change in our handbook policy for this important cause. After reading Ava’s letter, I was compelled to honor their request. Ava, you are equally as compassionate and empathetic as you are a talented writer. You are a student leader. You embody all of the qualities that we hope our Fisher Falcons possess. Thank you for standing up for what you believe in and for being a loving example to us all. Keep flying like a Falcon, Ava. You are making a difference!
