## The Week of January 30th - February 3rd

Posted on Jan 30, 2017

Thank you to all who came to the Open House!

This week we begin our unit on volume.  We will learn the formulas and solve to find the volume of cylinders, cones, and spheres.

We continue working this week with expressions and equations. We will focus on solving problems with integers and rational numbers (decimals and fractions).  On Thursday, we will have a quiz on solving one-step equations. We will finish the week writing two-step equations.

## The Week of January 23rd - January 27th

Monday is Accelerated Math. This week we conclude our unit on angles and triangles.  Our unit test will be Thursday, January 26th.  Students will complete a study guide in class to help prepare for the test.  Enjoy the ski trip Friday!!

Monday is Accelerated Math. This week we will learn how to use inverse operations to solve one and two-step equations. We will then practice solving real-world word problems using inverse operations. We will finish the week creating our own unique word problems.

## The Week of January 17th - January 20th

Homeroom Reminder:  Please return the “release” form you received at the high school entrance exam as soon as possible.

We continue this week working with the Pythagorean Theorem.  We will test and use the converse of the Pythagorean Theorem to solve problems. Next, we will use the Pythagorean Theorem in the Coordinate Plane.  Finally, we will finish the week learning how to determine if two triangles are similar.  Our unit test on is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, January 25th.

We continue this week working with expressions and equations. We will continue translating expressions and combining like terms. We will use the distributive property to help simplify expressions. We will finish the week solving one-step equations.  On Friday, we will have a quiz covering writing, translating, and evaluating algebraic expressions.

## The Week of January 9th - January 13th

Happy New Year!  I hope everyone had wonderful holiday!

Monday is Accelerated Math.  On Tuesday, we continue working with angles and triangles. Students will solve problems using The Triangle Sum Theorem and The Exterior Angle Theorem. We will learn how to determine when two triangles are similar.  We will finish the week learning about The Pythagorean Theorem.  On Friday, we will have a quiz on angles formed by parallel lines cut by a transversal (corresponding angles, alternate interior angles, etc.)

Monday is Accelerated Math. On Tuesday, we begin our unit on expressions and equations.  We will translate and write algebraic expressions and equations. Next, we will work with combining like terms.  We will finish the week working with the commutative, associative and distributive properties.
