Welcome to Jr. High Math! My name is Cathy Browne and this is my 7th year at St. John Fisher. I am excited to be working with your child in 7th and 8th grade math. We are going to have a terrific year!

The Week of May 22nd - May 26th

REMINDERS:  8th grade ribbon mass is Thursday, May 25th at 8:15am.

8th Grade: 

We finish the year working on a project that includes many of the topics learned the past few years in math. Students will research and plan a family vacation.  The project will include using budgets, percents, estimating, rounding, and presenting data.

7th Grade:

This week we begin our unit on probability and statistics. We will learn how to describe the likelihood of an event and understand that the probability of a chance event is a number between 0 and 1. We will find the experimental probability of a simple event. Next, we will find the experimental probability of a compound event.

REMINDERS: 

May Crowing – Friday, May 19th, 11AM 

8th grade students should arrive in their homerooms by 10:30AM. All students will be dismissed at 11:30 AM, following the May Crowing.

8th Grade: 

Monday is Accelerated Math.  Tuesday we will review for Wednesday’s test on transformations.  Students will receive a study guide to help prepare for the test.  Additional review problems can be found on our Google Classroom.

7th Grade:

Monday is Accelerated Math. Tuesday we will review for Wednesday’s test on Chapter 8.  Students will receive a study guide and additional review problems can be found on our Google Classroom.  On Thursday, we begin our unit on statistics and probability.

REMINDERS:  No School Friday, May 12th?

8th Grade:

We conclude our unit on transformations this week. We finish the unit working with congruent figures and identifying a sequence of transformations. Our unit test will be Tuesday, May 16th. We will review for out test next Monday.  Practice problems will be posted on our Google classroom.

7th Grade:

On Monday, we will continue working on our scale drawing of a room in a house.  We will conclude our unit working with angles. We will measure angles using a protractor.  We will also use algebra and two-step equations to solve for missing angles. Our unit test will be Wednesday, May 13th.  We will complete a study guide for the test.  Practice problems will be posted on our Google classroom to help prepare for the test.
