# Ms. Cathy Browne, Junior High Math

Welcome to Jr. High Math! My name is Cathy Browne and this is my 7th year at St. John Fisher. I am excited to be working with your child in 7th and 8th grade math. We are going to have a terrific year!

## January 29 - February 02

Posted on Jan 29, 2018

We continue this week working with slope and the x- and y-intercepts of a line. We will focus on equations written in slope-intercept form (y=mx b). We will finish the week learning how to determine the slope and y-intercept of a line represented by a table.

We start the week writing and solving one-step equations and learn about inverse operations. Next, we will write and solve two step equations. Our equations will include integers, fractions and decimals.

## January 22 - January 26

Reminders: Please join us for mass this Sunday, January 28 at 10:00 AM to help celebrate the start of Catholic Schools Week.

Monday is Accelerated Math. On Tuesday, we begin our unit on nonproportional relationships. We will begin by using and creating tables, graphs, and equations to represent linear nonproportional relationships. Next, we will learn to how to find the y- and x-intercepts of a line.

Monday is Accelerated Math. On Tuesday, we continue working with algebraic expressions and equations. We will use the distributive property to help simplify expressions. Next, we will use the mathematical properties to add, subtract and multiply algebraic expressions. We will finish the week solving one step equations. On Wednesday, January 24th, we will have a quiz covering simplifying expressions and combing like terms.

## January 15 - January 19

Reminders: Confirmation Forms are due back this week.

We continue this week working with the Pythagorean Theorem and testing the converse of the Pythagorean Theorem. We will learn how to use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the distance between two points on a coordinate plane. On Friday, January 19, we will have a quiz covering all concepts related to Pythagorean Theorem. Additional practice problems to help prepare for the quiz will be available on our Google classroom.

This week we will continue working with algebraic expressions and equations. First, we will learn the different parts of an expression and equation. We will write and translate algebraic expressions and evaluate expressions using different operations. Finally, we will work with identifying and simplifying like terms.
