Ms. Cathy Browne, Junior High Math

Welcome to Jr. High Math! My name is Cathy Browne and this is my 7th year at St. John Fisher. I am excited to be working with your child in 7th and 8th grade math. We are going to have a terrific year!

Tuesday: Jr High Retreat at St. Rita High School  - Students wear their school uniforms and bring a “brown bag” lunch. 


Wednesday:  Early Dismissal @ 1:45 pm


Thursday: Halloween - Jr High students may be out of uniform.  This is also our second high school options day. Single gender schools will be here to meet and talk to students. 


Friday: All Saints Day Mass 1 pm


8th Grade

This week we conclude our unit on scientific notation and exponents. Our unit test is scheduled for Tuesday, November 5th.  We will work on a study guide in class to help prepare for the test. Additional problems will be available on our Google classroom as well. 


7th Grade

We conclude our unit on rational numbers this week. Our unit test is Friday, November 1st.  We will work on a study guide in class to help prepare for the test. There will also be additional problems for practice on our Google classroom.

Permission Slips are due for our October 29th retreat at St. Rita High School. Please turn in during homeroom. 


8th Grade

Group Three will take their quiz on Power of 10 and exponents Monday (rescheduled from last week.) This week we work on operations with scientific notation. We will learn how to add and subtract numbers in scientific notation. Next, we will learn how to multiply and divide numbers in scientific notation. We will also do Accelerated Math this Thursday, October 24th. 


7th Grade

This week we continue working on multiplying and dividing rational numbers.  We will review the rules for dividing when decimals are in the divisor, dividend, or both. We will review using the reciprocal when dividing with fractions. We will conclude the unit at the end of the week. Our unit test will be next Wednesday, October 30th. Students will have a study guide to help prepare for the test.  We will also do Accelerated Math this Thursday, October 24th.

8th Grade

We continue working this week with scientific notation. This week we will focus on scientific notation with negative numbers. We will work with examples of the very small numbers scientific notation with negative numbers represent. Our quiz on powers of 10 and exponents will be Thursday, October 17th.


 7th Grade 

We continue working with rational numbers this week.  First, we will work with subtracting rational numbers.  Next we will learn the “divisibility rules” for the numbers 2-10.  These rules will help us divide, as well as simplify fractions and factor numbers easily. We will finish the week multiplying and dividing rational numbers.

8th Grade

Monday is Accelerated Math.  We continue to work with integer exponents this week. On Tuesday, we will learn how to use scientific notation to write very large and very small quantities. We will also learn to convert numbers in scientific notation to standard notation. We will explore real world situations in science to represent these numbers.  We will have a quiz on powers of ten and exponents on Thursday, October 10th. 


7th Grade 

Monday is Accelerated Math.  On Tuesday, we start our unit on rational numbers. We will review the steps to convert fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions.  We will work with terminating and repeating decimals. Next, we will work with adding and subtracting rational numbers.
