Ms. Cathy Browne, Junior High Math

Welcome to Jr. High Math! My name is Cathy Browne and this is my 7th year at St. John Fisher. I am excited to be working with your child in 7th and 8th grade math. We are going to have a terrific year!

November 25 - November 29

Posted on Nov 24, 2019

Parent Teacher Conferences are Monday, November 25th from 12-3 and 5-8 & Tuesday, November 26th from 12-2.  I look forward to seeing you then.

With our short week, we will review some topics from earlier this year including integers, coordinate plane, and rational numbers.  I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoys the break.

November 18 - November 22

*Today marks the start of the 2nd Trimester.

**Report cards will be distributed on Wednesday.

8th Grade

Monday is Accelerated Math.  On Tuesday, we will continue working with angles and triangles. First, we will work with the sum of the angle measures in triangles and learn about the Triangle Sum Theorem. Next, we will work on solving for the missing angles of triangles. We will finish the week learning about exterior and remote interior angles of triangles.

7th Grade

Monday is Accelerated Math. The remainder of the week we continue working with proportional relationships. In addition to tables and equations, we will use a graph to represent and analyze proportional relationships. We will also spend some time working with the coordinate plane.

November 11 - November 15

Friday, November 15th

     *Picture retakes

*Dress down day in support of the Honor Flight Organization

*Veteran's Day Celebration 1pm in church

8th Grade

This week we will work with angles, parallel lines, and triangles. We will learn about the eight angles created when cut by a transversal. We will learn how to solve for a missing angle given the various angles relationships. Finally, we will learn various relationships between the interior and exterior angles of a triangle.

7th Grade

We continue working with unit rates this week. We will focus on proportional relationships and learn how to calculate a rate of change. We will learn how to use tables, graphs and an equation to represent a proportional relationship.  We will have a quiz on unit rates and solving for proportions on Thursday, November 14th.

November 04 - November 08

8th Grade

Monday is Accelerated Math. Our unit test on exponents and scientific notation is Wednesday, November 6th.  We will complete a study guide in class. On Thursday we begin the first of our geometry units.  We will learn about angle relationships and triangles.

7th Grade

Groups 2 & 3 will take their test on test on rational numbers Monday (postponed from Friday).  We will then begin our unit rates and proportionality. First, we will work on finding and using unit rates. Next, we will begin working on constant rate of change. Friday we will have Accelerated Math.
