Welcome to Jr. High Math! My name is Cathy Browne and this is my 7th year at St. John Fisher. I am excited to be working with your child in 7th and 8th grade math. We are going to have a terrific year!

Reminders: Please continue to complete the Daily Attendance Form located on my Google Classroom.  Progress Report Check is Wednesday, April 29th.  My office hours this week are Monday - Thursday, 11:30 am - 12:00 pm.  You can access the link for Office Hours from my Google Classroom. 

 

8th Grade

Look for information this week regarding the Monsignor McElligot Scholarship Award.  

 

We will be solving more equations this week.  First, we will learn how to work with decimals when solving equations.  Next, we will focus on solving equations using distributive property. 

 

On Monday, May 4th we will have a  quiz on solving all the different types of equations we’ve worked the past few weeks.

7th Grade

This week, we will learn about scale drawings. We will learn how to create a scale to compare an actual object to a smaller representation. We will also learn how to calculate the area of an actual object using a scale drawing. We have a few more terms to add to our Geometry Books, then we will have a quiz on all our Geometry Terms Monday, May 4th.  I will post a list of all the terms you should have in your Geometry Books so you can check to make certain you have not missed any.

Reminders:  

Happy Spring!  I hope that everyone had a wonderful Easter.

 

As a reminder, students must complete the daily Attendance Form.  The form is posted daily to my Google Math Classsroom. The form is evidence and provides a record of each student's E-Learning.

 

In addition to my lessons, I have daily office hours, Monday - Friday from 11:30 am - 12:00 pm. Students may use this time to ask questions, review assignments, or for extra practice with problems. The link to sign in for this time is available on my Google Math Stream.

 

** If you have questions or need help, and are not able to join the live lessons or visit during office hours, please send me an email.  We will figure out a time that works!**    

 

8th Grade

We continue working with multi-step equations this week.  Our equations will now include fractions and decimals. To help solve these equations, we will review prime and composite numbers and how to find Least Common Multiple (LCM).  Monday’s lesson is a video lesson. Wednesday’s lesson will be live at 10:45 am. On Friday, students will complete a “virtual field trip” and activity related to the 2020 Census.

 

7th Grade

We start our 2nd Geometry unit this week, Modeling Geometric Figures.  In order to prepare for this unit, we need to review proportions. Monday’s lesson is a video lesson reviewing how to solve for the missing part of a portion. Wednesday’s lesson will be live at 10:00 am. We will learn about scale factor and scale models. On Friday, students will complete a “virtual field trip” and activity related to the 2020 Census.  

 

 

Holy Week Assignment

On Thursday, students are scheduled to have a half-day before beginning our Easter break. Because this is a half day of e-learning, students will ONLY be responsible for completing a religion assignment that will highlight the solemnity and significance of the Triduum. This assignment will be posted to Mrs. G.'s Religion stream  on Thursday morning and is to be completed on Thursday.

Reminders:

8th Grade

We are going to work this week solving equations with variables on both sides. Please join me for Monday’s Lesson at 10:15 am.  The sign-in information will be posted to my Google Classroom Stream. A video version of the lesson will be posted later Monday morning. Students should also continue to work on the Khan Academy topics assigned to their class. 

 

7th Grade

We continue working with circles this week.  We will solve for the area and perimeter of composite figures that now include circles.  Wednesday’s Lesson will be LIVE at 10 am. I will post the sign-in information to the stream Wednesday morning. Students should also continue to work on the Khan Academy topics assigned to their class.
