In Reading this week, we will begin focusing on our next story: Addie in Charge. Our skill that we will be focusing on this week is: Character. We will also be focusing on some other skills such as theme, compare and contrast, and context clues as well. *Students will have a Reading test on Friday, October 6th.* Students should study their vocabulary, notes and comprehension review questions for the test on Friday.
*A variety of different book reports will be assigned throughout the school year in Reading. Students will be assigned their second book report this week. Students will also receive the form with the format for their book report this week as well. For this second “October Book Report,” students may choose a mystery book of their choice. *The October Book Report will be due on Thursday, October 26th.*Students are encouraged to turn in their book reports early, before the scheduled due date, if they are ready to be turned in.
*Also, students will be required to read and take quizzes on 8 books per trimester for Accelerated Reading. At least 1 of the 8 total books for the trimester needs to be a nonfiction book. There will also be due dates within the trimester for how many books should be read and AR quizzes taken.
4th Grade – Accelerated Reader – Due Dates for the 1st Trimester:

2 more books were due (total of 4 books all together) and AR quizzes by this past Friday, September 29th.

In Social Studies this week, we will continue our study of the Earth and Map Skills. We will be continuing to learn about and review hemispheres, cardinal directions, and lines of latitude and longitude this week. We will also be practicing with locating places using the different hemispheres, cardinal directions, and also locating different places on a map using these grid lines. We will be focusing on reviewing some key terms as well as working on how to locate different places and bodies of water on a map using the lines of latitude and longitude. *Students will have a test next week on Wednesday, October 11th that will focus on all of the map skills that we have learned.* Students should be able to answer questions about some key vocabulary terms related to hemispheres, cardinal directions, latitude and longitude. Students should also be able to locate different places on a map correctly using these grid lines, as well as answer some other questions about hemispheres, cardinal directions, latitude and longitude for their test. Students should study their notes, HW worksheets, as well as their review sheets in preparation for the test on Wednesday of next week.
In Spelling this week, we will begin with our Unit 7 spelling words. We will have our seventh spelling test this Friday, October 6th on Unit 7.
- On Tuesday, October 3rd, we will have School Pictures. Students may dress in their Sunday best.
- Also, on Tuesday evening, October 3rd, Mr. Stiak will be holding a meeting for new band members and parents from 6:30 - 8 PM.
- Wednesday, October 4th, is Special Lunch Day.
- Friday Folders will go home this week. Please look over the contents of the folder and discuss your child's progress with him/her. You may keep the quizzes/tests that are in the folder. Also, the Friday Folder should be signed and returned on Tuesday of next week because there is no school on Monday.
- There will be no school for students on Monday, October 9th for the Columbus Day holiday.
