In Reading this week, we will be continuing our novel study. We will be finishing up our focus of Chapters 1-6 this week. This week, we will also be focusing on some paired texts as well. We will be learning about some different topics while working with some paired passages and articles in our Time for Kids magazine. This week, some of our skills that we will be focusing on will include: working with our vocabulary, story elements, plot, sequence, character traits, compare and contrast, comprehension and analysis of the chapters, as well as practicing finding and locating text evidence to support our answers. We will also be working with some extended responses this week. *Students will have a Reading test this Friday, November 17th that will focus on Chapters 1-6 of our novel.* Students should study their vocabulary, practice worksheets, as well as their comprehension and written response questions for Chapters 1-6 in preparation for the test on Friday.
*A variety of different book reports will be assigned throughout the school year in Reading. Students were assigned their third book report last week. Also, students should have received the form with the format for their book report as well. For this third “November Book Report,” students may choose a fiction book of their choice. *The November Book Report will be due by next Tuesday, November 21st.* Students are encouraged to turn in their book reports early, before the scheduled due date, if they are ready to be turned in.
*Also, students will be required to read and take quizzes on 8 books per trimester for Accelerated Reading. At least 1 of the 8 total books for the trimester needs to be a nonfiction book. There will also be due dates within the trimester for how many books should be read and AR quizzes taken.
4th Grade – Accelerated Reader – Due Dates for the 2nd Trimester:
*2 books and AR quizzes will be due by Friday, December 8th.*
2 more books are due (total of 4 books all together) and AR quizzes by Thursday, January 11th.
2 more books are due (total of 6 books all together) and AR quizzes by Friday, February 2nd.
2 more books are due (for a total of 8 books all together) – All 8 books (including at least 1 NF book) and AR quizzes for the trimester are due by Friday, February 16th.
*This week, students may continue to start taking ARs that will count for the 2nd trimester.*
In Social Studies last week, we began our study of the second lesson of Unit 1 in our textbook, which focuses on the first settlers in North America and how this affected Native Americans. We read, discussed and answered questions about Lesson 2. In Social Studies this week, we will continue to focus on Lesson 2 of the first unit of our textbook as well as continue our focus on Native Americans. *Students will have a test this week on Thursday, November 16th that will focus on Lesson 2.* Students should be able to answer questions about the vocabulary for this lesson, the section review questions, as well as the questions from their Study Guide for the test on this lesson.
In Spelling this week, we will begin with our Unit 13 spelling words. We will have our thirteenth spelling test this Friday, November 17th on Unit 13.
- The second trimester begins this Monday, November 13th.
- The Museum of Science and Industry field trip forms went home last week. Please return the permission slip and fee by this Wednesday, November 15th.
- Also, report cards will be distributed on Wednesday, November 15th. Please sign and return the report card envelope on Thursday, November 16th. Thank you!
- Friday Folders will go home this week. Please look over the contents of the folder and discuss your child's progress with him/her. You may keep the quizzes/tests that are in the folder. Also, the Friday Folder should be signed and returned on Monday of next week.
