*In Reading this week, we will be focusing on some reading and writing activities, reviewing some of our skills, working with some paired passages and continuing with our novel study. This week, we will be focusing on *Chapters 1-6* of our novel. This week, some of our skills that we will be focusing on will include: working with our vocabulary, story elements, plot, sequence, comprehension and analysis of the chapters, compare and contrast, as well as practicing locating evidence to support our answers. We will also be focusing on and practicing with some different kinds of study skills and extended responses this week. *Students will not have a Reading test this Friday, the 9th.* The test on Chapters 1-6 of our novel will be next week.
*A variety of different book reports will be assigned throughout the school year in Reading. Students will be assigned their third book report this week. Also, students will receive the form with the format for their book report this week as well. For this third “November Book Report,” students may choose a *fiction* book of their choice. Students are encouraged to turn in their book reports early, before the scheduled due date, if they are ready to be turned in.
*Also, students will be required to read and take quizzes on 8 books per trimester for Accelerated Reading. At least 1 of the 8 total books for the trimester needs to be a nonfiction book. There will also be due dates within the trimester for how many books should be read and AR quizzes taken.
*4th Grade – Accelerated Reader – Due Dates for the 1st Trimester*:
*2 books and AR quizzes were due by Tuesday, September 18th.*
*2 more books were due (for a total of 4 books all together) and AR quizzes by Monday, October 1st.*
*2 more books were due (for a total of 6 books all together) and AR quizzes by Monday, October 22nd.*
*2 more books will be due (for a total of 8 books all together including at least 1 nonfiction book) and AR quizzes by this Monday, November 5th.*
*In Social Studies this week, we will be continuing and finishing up our focus on Lesson 1 of the first unit of our textbook, which focuses on the First Americans, as well as beginning to focus on Lesson 2. We will be continuing to focus on and learn all about the characteristics of several different Native American groups. We will be discussing and reviewing the first lesson in Unit 1 of our hardcover this week. We will discuss the sections as well as answer our review questions for this lesson. Also, we will be reviewing the information from this lesson as well as working on and going over our study guides to prepare for our test this week. *Students will have a test this week on Tuesday, November 6th that will focus on Lesson 1 of the first unit in our textbook.* Students should be able to answer questions about the vocabulary, as well as the different Native American groups that we have learning about in this lesson. Students should study their vocabulary, notes, as well as their study guide sheet in preparation for the test on Tuesday of this week. We will also be working with timelines this week as well.
*In Spelling this week, we will begin with our *Unit 11* spelling words. We will have our eleventh spelling test this upcoming Friday, November 9th on Unit 11.
- On Wednesday, November 7th, we will have Special Lunch.
- On Friday, November 9th, we will have an all-school Prayer Service at 1:15 for Veterans Day. All are welcome to join us to honor our veterans. Also, on Friday, we will be collecting money for "Honor Flight Chicago." If students bring in a donation, they may be out of uniform in red, white and blue attire. Thank you in advance for your support.
- Also, the first trimester ends this Friday, the 9th. Report cards will be distributed and sent home next Wednesday, November 14th.
- Friday folders will go home this week. Please look over the contents of the folder and discuss your child's progress with him/her. You may keep the tests/quizzes that are in the folder. Also, the Friday folder should be signed and returned on Monday of next week.
