*Hello and Welcome to Our First Full Week of School!*
*We had a fun first few days of school last week learning all about fourth grade and getting to know more about the students in our class! I have really been enjoying getting to know all of the new fourth graders, and they have been doing a great job adjusting to fourth grade!*
READING: In Reading this week, we will begin working on writing our Summer Break Newspaper Articles. This week, we will also be working with our Summer Reading Assignments. We will be going over what should be included in our Summer Reading paragraphs. Students will also be creating their notecards in class to prepare for presenting their Book Commercial (speech) on Friday. I am looking forward to hearing all about their summer experiences as well as their Summer Reading adventures!
*A variety of different BOOK REPORTS will be assigned throughout the school year in Reading. Students will be assigned their first book report next week. For this first “September Book Report,” students may choose a fiction book of their choice. Students are encouraged to turn in their book reports early, before the scheduled due date, if they are ready to be turned in.
*Also, students will be required to read and take quizzes on 8 books per trimester for ACCELERATED READING. At least 1 of the 8 total books for the trimester needs to be a nonfiction book. There will also be due dates within the trimester for how many books should be read and AR quizzes taken.
4th Grade – Accelerated Reader – Due Dates for the 1st Half of the Trimester Coming Soon!
SOCIAL STUDIES: In Social Studies this week, we will begin our study of the Earth and Map Skills. We will be learning about and reviewing the continents and oceans, as well as how to locate and label them on a map. *Students will have a test next week that will focus on all of the continents and oceans.* Students should be able to locate, label and spell all the continents and oceans correctly on a map for their test. Students should study their maps and review sheets in preparation for the test next week.
SPELLING: In Spelling this week, we will begin with our Unit 1 spelling words. We will have our first spelling test this Friday, August 30th on Unit 1.
- Students will not have school on Monday, September 2nd for Labor Day. Happy 3-Day Weekend!
- September 4th is Back to School Night. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone! See you then!
*Hope you have a fantastic week!*
