Ms. Courtney Garrity, Fourth Grade

Hello and welcome back! My name is Ms. Garrity and I am looking forward to beginning another school year here at St. John Fisher. This is my fifth year here at SJF, and I'm excited to be working with your child in fourth grade this year. Here are a few facts about me. I have worked at a school that specializes in Special Education. I received my teaching degree in Elementary Education from St. Xavier University. I love playing volleyball and watching Chicago sports teams, especially the Blackhawks. I have always had a passion for working with children from working at summer camps to teaching here at SJF. Even though I have just begun my career in the field of education, I continue to love teaching children and helping students to achieve their full potential. I hope you enjoy the rest of the summer! I'm looking forward to meeting you all on August 21, 2018! We are going to have a fantastic school year!

Week of April 29th - May 3rd

*I hope everyone had a great weekend!*

In Reading class this week, we will be finishing up presenting our Poetry Book Reports. We will also work on a book of knowledge activity, a paired passage activity and begin our novel called: The Lemonade War. For our paired passage activity, we will be focusing on some ReadWorks articles about recycling. For our novel this week, we will be focusing on Chapters 1-7. We will be reading and discussing these chapters, as well as working on our student packet worksheets and activities related to these chapters.

*2 more ARs (for 6 ARs in total) will be due by this upcoming Friday, May 3rd.*

In Social Studies this week, we will continue to focus on the West Region of the United States. We will be making and practicing with our state and capital flashcards this week. We will also be reviewing for the quiz on Thursday. *Students will have a quiz on the West Region this upcoming Thursday, May 2nd.* Students should study their state and capital flashcards, notes and study guide maps in preparation for the quiz on Thursday of this week.

In Spelling this week, we will be focusing on our next unit: Unit 31. *We will have our test on Unit 31 on Friday, May 3rd.*
