Week of December 10th - 14th

Posted on Dec 10, 2018

Hello!

*I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!*

*In Reading this week, we will be focusing on some reading and writing activities as well as finishing up with our Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing novel study. This week, as we are finishing up our focus on Chapters 7-10 of our novel, we will be working on some different activities that relate to our novel as well. This week, some of our skills that we will be focusing on will include working with and reviewing: our vocabulary, story elements, plot, sequence, comprehension and analysis of the chapters, figurative language, compare and contrast, as well as practicing locating text evidence to support our answers. We will also be practicing with some extended responses this week. *Students will not have a Reading test this week.* We will finish up going over our vocabulary, notes, as well as information from our student packets and worksheets as well.

*A variety of different book reports will be assigned throughout the school year in Reading. Students were assigned their fourth book report, and should have received the form with the format for their book report last week. For this fourth “December Book Report,” students may choose a *Christmas* book of their choice. *The December Book Report will be due on Tuesday, December 18th.* Students are encouraged to turn in their book reports early, before the scheduled due date, if they are ready to be turned in.

*Also, students will be required to read and take quizzes on *8 books per trimester for Accelerated Reading.* There will also be due dates within the trimester for how many books should be read and AR quizzes taken. At least *1* of the 8 total books for the trimester needs to be a *nonfiction book.* *Also, please note that students need to earn a score of 70 percent or higher on their AR quizzes in order for them to receive credit for the ARs.*

*Students may now be working on taking ARs that will count for the second trimester.*

*4th Grade – Accelerated Reader – Due Dates for the 2nd Trimester*:

2 books and AR quizzes were due by this past Monday, December 3rd.

**2 more books (for a total of 4 all together) will be due by January 11th.**

Happy Reading! :)

*In Social Studies this week, we will begin our study of Lesson 4 of the first unit of our textbook. We will be discussing and learning all about the information in the fourth lesson in Unit 1 of our hardcover this week. We will read and discuss the sections as well as answer our review questions for this lesson. Also, we will be reviewing the information from this lesson to prepare for our quiz on Friday of this week as well as working on and going over our study guides to prepare for our test next week. *Students will have a short quiz on the material from Lesson 4 on Friday of this week, December 14th.* Students should study their vocabulary, section review questions as well as their study guides in their notebooks for the quiz on Friday. *Also, students will have a test next week on Wednesday, December 19th that will focus on all of the material in Lesson 4 of the first unit in our textbook.* Students should be able to answer questions about the vocabulary, as well as the information that we have learning about in this lesson. Students should study their vocabulary, notes, as well as their study guide sheet in preparation for the test on Wednesday of next week.

*In Spelling this week, we will begin with our *Unit 15* spelling words. We will have our fifteenth spelling test this upcoming Friday, December 14th on Unit 15.

*Reminders*:

  • Thank you so much to all who helped with chaperoning for our field trip last week! We had so much fun!
  • Friday folders will go home this week. Please look over the contents of the folder and discuss your child's progress with him/her. You may keep the tests/quizzes that are in the folder. Also, the Friday folder should be signed and returned on Monday of next week.

*Hope you have a great week and enjoy the upcoming weekend!*
