Hello!

*I hope everyone had a great weekend!*

*We had so much fun celebrating Catholic Schools Week last week! Also, thank you to all who brought in a donation for the Ronald McDonald House last week! It is much appreciated!*

*Also, the students have been doing a great job presenting on their Paper Bag Book Report and State Brochure projects! The students have also been enjoying writing down their interesting facts and asking some creative questions during our mini question and answer sessions after our presentations!* :)

*In Reading this week, we will be focusing on some reading and writing activities, a book of knowledge activity, CEE activity, as well as finishing up presenting our Paper Bag Book Report Projects. This week, we will be focusing on continuing and finishing up presenting our book reports in class, as well as working with some paired passages from ReadWorks. Students will be finishing up focusing on some interesting facts about their classmates' Book Reports and writing about these during the presentations as well. We will also have mini question and answer sessions after the presentations. In Reading this week, we will also be reading some Time for Kids articles about some influential people as well as working with some paired passages. For our paired passages, we will be focusing on some ReadWorks articles about health and safety during the season of winter. We will be reading and discussing our two articles, comparing/contrasting them, as well as working with some questions and extended responses that focus on our articles. We will be discussing and learning about a topic related to winter. This week, some of our skills that we will be focusing on will include working with and reviewing: the elements of plot, comprehension and analysis of nonfiction text, comparing and contrasting, as well as practicing locating text evidence to support our answers. We will also be practicing with answering extended responses this week. *Students will not have a Reading test this week.*

*A variety of different book reports will be assigned throughout the school year in Reading. Students should continue to bring their book report book to class with them through the rest of this week. We will be continuing and finishing up presenting our Paper Bag Book Reports in class this week.* *Also, the students will be assigned their sixth book report this week as well. *For this sixth "February Book Report," students may choose a *biography* book of their choice. *Students should be working on finding and reading their Biography book.* Students will be receiving the form with the format for their book report as well. Students are encouraged to turn in their book reports early, before the scheduled due date, if they are ready to be turned in.

*Also, students will be required to read and take quizzes on *8 books per trimester for Accelerated Reading.* There will also be due dates within the trimester for how many books should be read and AR quizzes taken. At least *1* of the 8 total books for the trimester needs to be a *nonfiction book.* *Also, please note that students need to earn a score of 70 percent or higher on their AR quizzes in order for them to receive credit for the ARs.*

*Students may now be working on taking ARs that will count for the second trimester.*

*4th Grade – Accelerated Reader – Due Dates for the 2nd Trimester*:

2 books and AR quizzes were due by Monday, December 3rd.

*2 more books (for a total of 4 all together) were due by Friday, January 11th.*
