Week of November 28th - December 2nd

Posted on Nov 28, 2016

Hello!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoyed the break!

In Reading last week, we finished up our focus on our novel: The Secrets of Bearhaven. This week, we will be reviewing the skills we practiced through our stories in Unit 2 as well as working on Reading activities and questions to review some of the skills that we practiced from Unit 2. Some of our skills that we will be focusing on and reviewing this week are: Visualizing, Cause and Effect, Text Structure, Theme, and Context Clues. We will also be practicing SLAM this week. Students will have their Unit 2 Skills test next week on Tuesday.

*A variety of different book reports will be assigned throughout the school year in Reading. Students will be assigned their fourth book report next week. Students will also receive their December Book Report forms with the format next week as well. Students are encouraged to turn in their book reports early, before the scheduled due date, if they are ready to be turned in.

*Also, students will be required to read and take quizzes on 8 books per trimester for Accelerated Reading. At least 1 of the 8 total books for the trimester needs to be a nonfiction book. There will also be due dates within the trimester for how many books should be read and AR quizzes taken.

*Students can now be working on reading books and taking AR quizzes for their 2nd trimester AR requirement.*

4th Grade – Accelerated Reader – Due Dates for the 2nd Trimester so far:

*2 books and AR quizzes are due by next Thursday, December 1st.*

This week, we will be focusing on a review of Lessons 1-3 as well as preparing for our test on Thursday. We will also review the key concepts of Lessons 1-3 this week. *We will have a test that will focus on Lessons 1-3 on Thursday, December 1st.* Students should study their notes, vocabulary, and study guide review questions in preparation for the test on Thursday.

In Spelling this week, we will begin with our Unit 13 spelling words. We will have our thirteenth spelling test this Thursday, December 1st on Unit 13.

*Reminders*

  • Our field trip is this upcoming Wednesday, November 30th. Students should wear their gym uniforms for the field trip (no shorts). Also, students should bring a brown bag lunch with them to the field trip (no glass please). Thank you!
