Posted on Sep 11, 2017

Hello!

*I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend and the beautiful weather!*

In Reading this week, we will continue focusing on our story: Train to Somewhere. We will be practicing with SLAM and working on an extended response question that focuses on one of our skills as well as one of the main characters from our story that we read about last week. We will also be reading and discussing an article. *Students will not have a Reading test this week.*

*A variety of different book reports will be assigned throughout the school year in Reading. Students were assigned their first book report last week. For this first “September Book Report,” students may choose a fiction book of their choice. Also, students will be given the format for the September Book Report this week. Students are encouraged to turn in their book reports early, before the scheduled due date, if they are ready to be turned in.

*Also, students will be required to read and take quizzes on 8 books per trimester for Accelerated Reading. At least 1 of the 8 total books for the trimester needs to be a nonfiction book. There will also be due dates within the trimester for how many books should be read and AR quizzes taken.

4th Grade – Accelerated Reader – Due Dates for the 1st Trimester:

*2 books and AR quizzes are due by this Tuesday, September 12th.*

*2 more books are due (total of 4 books all together) and AR quizzes by Friday, September 29th.*

2 more books are due (total of 6 books all together) and AR quizzes by Friday, October 20th.

2 more books are due (total of 8 books all together) – All 8 books and AR quizzes for the trimester are due by Friday, November 3rd.

Happy Reading! :)

In Social Studies this week, we will continue our study of the Earth and Map Skills. We will be continuing to learn about the cardinal directions and hemispheres, as well as how to locate and label them on a map. We will also be learning about locating different places and bodies of water on a map using the cardinal directions. *Students will have a quiz this week on Thursday, September 14th that will focus on the hemispheres and cardinal directions.* Students should be able to locate and label each of the cardinal directions and hemispheres correctly as well as answer questions about them for their quiz. Students should study their HW worksheets as well as their review sheets in preparation for the quiz on Thursday.

In Spelling this week, we will begin with our Unit 4 spelling words. We will have our fourth spelling test this Thursday, September 14th on Unit 4.
