Ms. Katie Fadden, Preschool

Welcome to St. John Fisher Preschool! My name is Katie Fadden and I couldn't be more excited to be your child's teacher this year. This is my ninth year teaching Preschool at St. John Fisher and I truly love teaching this age group - Preschool is the best! Prior to teaching, I attended St. Germaine School, Mother McAuley High School and Saint Mary's of Notre Dame where I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and minors in Reading and Early Childhood Education. I have one older brother, Dan, who is a Northwestern University alumni - we love to tailgate at home football games in the fall! Spending time with my family is my favorite thing to do. I am so very blessed to work with the absolutely incredible Mrs. Beth Furlong each day. She is a mom to 5 amazing children (2 in high school, 1 in college and 2 recent college grads), a former Speech Pathologist and a Fisher Falcon alum, too! Together we really look forward to a wonderful year of learning, laughter, friendships and fun with your child in Preschool!

Dear Parents,

We sure had a memorable week in Preschool celebrating Catholic Schools Week! We were treated to a wonderful performance by the St. Rita Band on Monday afternoon and enjoyed being read to by the fifth graders on Tuesday morning. On Tuesday afternoon, we had a blast playing trivia with our fourth grade buddies. We got together with our buddies again on Wednesday morning for a special STEM challenge – creating a snowflake that contains at least three different shapes using only toothpicks and mini marshmallows! On Thursday, we made thank you cards for our parents and on Friday, we had a special Rice Krispie treat from SOAR and enjoyed watching the Falcon Olympic games in the gym. We also had a blast having a Falcon Friends play date on Thursday where some visitors from the Falcon Friends weekly play group came by our room for a visit! The Preschoolers were excellent hosts and showed these new friends all around our room. :-) Can you believe Friday was the 100th day of school?! Wow, is the time flying! The Preschoolers may have aged greatly over these 100 days (haha!) but we certainly have had 100 days of fun, learning and friendship in Preschool! Thank you for your help in making this day so memorable and fun!

We also continued our winter themed learning this week by working on a mitten themed counting book. We also practiced patterning by having the Preschoolers pick various colored mittens to create their own patterns. They then continued their pattern on their paper using dab-a-dot markers. We also had fun participating in a winter themed write the room this week wearing special snowflake glasses!

Since we had so many special events planned this week, we did not start a new letter and instead used it as an opportunity to review all the letters. We read an adorable ABC train story and then worked together as a class to build our own alphabet train. As this week was Kindness Week at SJF, we also read tons of books about kindness and practiced different acts of kindness each day. Thank you for your help with their kindness homework! It sounds like many wonderful things were said and done – way to go Preschoolers!

Sadie was our super special star of the week this week! She showed our class her adorable poster and answered questions from her friends. She also brought in a sweet story for us to read and showed us her awesome karaoke machine complete with a real microphone! We are working on a special book for Sadie to show her all the many ways she is so wonderful! Way to go Sadie – you are so very special to us!!! :-)

Just some reminders…

- We have been posting all of our fun over on Instagram @ourfuntimein109! We hope you are enjoying having a glimpse into our days at school!

- Looking ahead, we will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on Thursday February 13th as all of our friends will be at school on that day. Preschoolers are welcome to bring a Valentine/wrapped treat to pass out to all of their friends (no nuts please!) We are excited to welcome a new friend to our class this week so we now have 21 children in our class. To make passing out easier, please do not address the “to” section of your child’s Valentine. It would be great practice however to have your child sign their own name on their Valentine’s! If you have your child sign a couple a day over the next week and a half it would be a great opportunity to practice printing their name! :-)

- Special Lunch is on Wednesday for those who ordered this month. - If you have not yet turned in your Preschool or Kindergarten registration for next year, we would really appreciate if you could please do so as soon as possible! Thank you so much! We are also so appreciative of you promoting our wonderful school to friends, family and neighbors! It sure is a great time to be a Falcon!

As always, thank you for all you do! Please do not hesitate to email me at with any questions or concerns. Have a wonderful week!
