Dear Preschool Parents,
Happy Valentine’s Day! We have been having so much fun engaging in all sorts of Valentine’s themed fun in Preschool. Last week, we went on a Valentine letter hunt throughout our classroom where the Preschoolers had to find hidden hearts with letters on them and then find its match. The Preschoolers painted and cut out hearts and worked on patterning skills by making a Valentine’s themed heart pattern wreath. We also made adorable love bugs and practiced fine motor skills by ripping and gluing red and pink paper to show that we “love you to pieces!” We have been enjoying many different Valentine’s themed centers that work on skills including letter recognition, letter sounds, number recognition and counting. Additionally, we have been enjoying many Valentine’s Day themed stories!
On Monday, we learned about Groundhog Day and learned that the Groundhog did not see his shadow this year and therefore, predicts an early spring – hooray! We had fun reading some Groundhog stories, making a groundhog/shadow craft and playing some groundhog themed games that worked on skills including syllables, numbers/counting and rhyming.
We learned all about letter Nn this week! We practiced how to write the upper and lowercase letter as well as how to make its special sound. The Preschoolers brainstormed tons of new words that begin with the letter and searched for it among others. We sorted objects that do and do not begin with Nn.
In religion, we read and discussed the bible story “Jonah and the Whale.” We learned how Jonah did not initially listen to God but that God always forgives. We talked about times we can show forgiveness, too! After reading and discussing the story, we worked on a dot-to-dot page to add to our bibles.
Just some reminders…
- We are so excited to celebrate Valentine’s Day in Preschool! We will be celebrating on Thursday (Feb. 13th) instead of Friday since all of our friends attend on Thursdays. Preschoolers are welcome to bring in a Valentine/wrapped treat for all of their friends to pass out. (No nuts please!) To make passing out easier for your child, please do not fill out the “to” section. It would be great (fun!) practice to have you child sign his/her own Valentines! We are looking forward to welcoming a new friend to our class this week so we will have 21 students in our class on Thursday.
- Looking ahead, there is no school Monday (Feb. 17th) in recognition of President’s Day.
- While this class has been the healthiest class ever (thank goodness!!!) we unfortunately did have a couple friends out sick last week with different illnesses. Mrs. Furlong and I are constantly wiping down surfaces and toys with Clorox wipes and having the Preschoolers wash their hands and use hand sanitizer to hopefully prevent any illnesses from spreading. We really appreciate your help in keeping your child home when they are sick – thank you!
