Ms. Katie Fadden, Preschool

Welcome to St. John Fisher Preschool! My name is Katie Fadden and I couldn't be more excited to be your child's teacher this year. This is my ninth year teaching Preschool at St. John Fisher and I truly love teaching this age group - Preschool is the best! Prior to teaching, I attended St. Germaine School, Mother McAuley High School and Saint Mary's of Notre Dame where I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and minors in Reading and Early Childhood Education. I have one older brother, Dan, who is a Northwestern University alumni - we love to tailgate at home football games in the fall! Spending time with my family is my favorite thing to do. I am so very blessed to work with the absolutely incredible Mrs. Beth Furlong each day. She is a mom to 5 amazing children (2 in high school, 1 in college and 2 recent college grads), a former Speech Pathologist and a Fisher Falcon alum, too! Together we really look forward to a wonderful year of learning, laughter, friendships and fun with your child in Preschool!

Dear Preschool Parents,

What an awesome first full week of Preschool we had! The boys and girls are quickly adjusting to our routine, enjoying time spent playing with new friends and even began attending specials classes which they loved! This year, we will be attending gym class on Monday mornings, computer class on Tuesday mornings, art class on Wednesday mornings, music class on Thursday afternoons and library class every other Friday morning. It would be very much appreciated if you could ensure your child wears gym shoes on Mondays for gym class - thank you!

This week in Preschool we reviewed colors and all the Preschoolers shared with the class via our “Question of the Day” chart what their personal favorite color is. After graphing our responses, the Preschoolers made adorable crayon “people” of their favorite color (and even got some practice using scissors – they did great!) We also enjoyed reading the sweet story and listening to the song “Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes” where the main character, Pete the Cat, steps in different items that change the color of his shoes. The Preschoolers also worked on their own Pete the Cat color book. We practiced “reading” the story as a class and to many partners – they think it is pretty amazing that they can “read!” :-) Of course, we also enjoyed reading many other Pete the Cat favorites including “Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes” and “Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons.” They loved singing the corresponding songs to each story, too! Some other favorite books we read this week include “Everyone Asked About You,” “Chicka, Chicka, Boom Boom,” and “Where Is the Green Sheep?” We also spent a lot of time this week reviewing our names. We sang some fun name songs to help the Preschoolers learn all of their new friends’ names. The preschoolers also practiced their fine motor skills by gluing small colorful squares onto a big outline of the first letter of their name. Additionally, we enjoyed trying out some new centers, playing at the playground, learning new prayers and even did awesome at our first fire drill practice on Tuesday morning! This group sure is doing wonderful – we are so proud of them!

We would love if you could join us on Wednesday evening for the school wide “Back to School Night” for Parents. The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. in Church with some important info from our school Leadership. We will then be offering a Preschool presentation in Room 107 (Mrs. Altman’s classroom) at 6:50p.m., 7:10 p.m. and 7:30 pm. (the presentation will be the same at each time slot so feel free to attend whichever time works best for your schedule!) This presentation will hopefully answer any questions you may still have or be wondering about our program as well as hopefully get to know us and our program a little more! Feel free to also stop by our room (Room 109) at any point in the evening to see your child’s current work on display and take a peek at our classroom! We hope you can join us!

Just some reminders…

- Special Lunch (Baraccos) is on Wednesday for any full day students that ordered. Please still send a snack/drink for snack time on this day.

- There is no school for students next Friday (September 13th) - Enjoy Fisher Fest!

Please do not hesitate to email me at kfadden@sjfschool.net with any questions or concerns. Thank you again for all of your help and for sharing your wonderful children with us this year! We are so looking forward to an incredible year with this sweet group! Have a great week!
