Ms. Katie Fadden, Preschool

Welcome to St. John Fisher Preschool! My name is Katie Fadden and I couldn't be more excited to be your child's teacher this year. This is my ninth year teaching Preschool at St. John Fisher and I truly love teaching this age group - Preschool is the best! Prior to teaching, I attended St. Germaine School, Mother McAuley High School and Saint Mary's of Notre Dame where I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and minors in Reading and Early Childhood Education. I have one older brother, Dan, who is a Northwestern University alumni - we love to tailgate at home football games in the fall! Spending time with my family is my favorite thing to do. I am so very blessed to work with the absolutely incredible Mrs. Beth Furlong each day. She is a mom to 5 amazing children (2 in high school, 1 in college and 2 recent college grads), a former Speech Pathologist and a Fisher Falcon alum, too! Together we really look forward to a wonderful year of learning, laughter, friendships and fun with your child in Preschool!

Dear Parents,

It sounds like each of your families had wonderful and memorable Labor Day weekends! We have more fun to look forward to this week with the upcoming Fisher Fest –I know some preschoolers who sure are excited!! :-)

This week in Preschool we continued working on recognizing our names and identifying the names of all our new friends in Room 109. The Preschoolers enjoyed using watercolor paints to fill in the special letters of their names. We also reviewed colors by playing a fun color stew game where they chose a card and had to add a certain number of items of different colors to their “stew!” The Preschoolers also loved reading and doing some activities with the story “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” which is also great color review. Additionally, we worked on shapes this week and played a game where the boys and girls were able to reach into a bag, choose a shape, tell the class what shape they picked and then put it in the correct bag based on the shape they chose. They sure did awesome!

We read and discussed our first bible story of the year in Religion. We read about how God created the world and made it such a colorful, wonderful place. After reading and discussing the story, the boys and girls drew a picture of the story to add to their bibles. Throughout the year, we will be reading and discussing many bible stories and saving their papers to compile their own beautiful keepsake bible at the end of the year.

We are so thrilled to welcome Ellie Urchell, a senior at Mother McAuley to our classroom this year as she participates in McAuley’s Little School Program. She will be with us for part of Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mornings this year. We are so happy to welcome Ellie to our classroom this year!

Just a reminder that there is no school this Friday (September 13th) –enjoy Fisher Fest!!

As always, please feel free to email me at with any questions or concerns. Have a wonderful week!
