Ms. Katie Fadden, Preschool

Welcome to St. John Fisher Preschool! My name is Katie Fadden and I couldn't be more excited to be your child's teacher this year. This is my ninth year teaching Preschool at St. John Fisher and I truly love teaching this age group - Preschool is the best! Prior to teaching, I attended St. Germaine School, Mother McAuley High School and Saint Mary's of Notre Dame where I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and minors in Reading and Early Childhood Education. I have one older brother, Dan, who is a Northwestern University alumni - we love to tailgate at home football games in the fall! Spending time with my family is my favorite thing to do. I am so very blessed to work with the absolutely incredible Mrs. Beth Furlong each day. She is a mom to 5 amazing children (2 in high school, 1 in college and 2 recent college grads), a former Speech Pathologist and a Fisher Falcon alum, too! Together we really look forward to a wonderful year of learning, laughter, friendships and fun with your child in Preschool!

Dear Parents,

We had an apple-solutely awesome week in Preschool starting to learn all about apples! We learned all sorts of facts about apples, including how they grow and what the names/functions are of the different parts of an apple, including skin, flesh, core, seeds, stem, leaf and blossoms. We also brainstormed describing words about apples and created an anchor chart about all the facts we know about apples. We learned that if you cut an apple horizontally there is something special hidden inside – a star! We made red and green apple prints using these star apple stamps. We also did a science experiment where we predicted whether an apple would sink or float. Most students predicted the apple would sink and were excited when they saw how it floats on the top! We began working on a 0-5 math apple book and made adorable apples that they cut out and then fingerprinted seeds in the middle that was the same number as they are old. We counted how many apples tall we are and they also made apple trees that they finger-painted apples on. Of course, we are also enjoying reading plenty of fiction and nonfiction apple themed stories! We look forward to continuing the fun learning about apples this week!

We learned all about letter “Bb” this week! We learned the special sound the letter makes and practiced how to write the upper and lowercase letter. The preschoolers identified tons of words that begin with the letter and enjoyed making a Blue B craft that they decorated with all sorts of buttons!

In religion, we read and discussed the story of God’s Promise to Abraham and Sarah. After reading and discussing the story, the boys and girls worked on a bible page to add to their bibles.

Our Star of the Week this week was Colin! We enjoyed learning all about Colin and we also worked on a special book for him to let him know all the many ways he is so special to us. Hooray for Colin!!! :-)

Our Full Day Preschoolers attended the school wide Pep Rally on Friday afternoon and had a blast cheering on the SJF Falcons! Go Falcons!!

Just some reminders..
