Ms. Katie Fadden, Preschool

Welcome to St. John Fisher Preschool! My name is Katie Fadden and I couldn't be more excited to be your child's teacher this year. This is my ninth year teaching Preschool at St. John Fisher and I truly love teaching this age group - Preschool is the best! Prior to teaching, I attended St. Germaine School, Mother McAuley High School and Saint Mary's of Notre Dame where I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and minors in Reading and Early Childhood Education. I have one older brother, Dan, who is a Northwestern University alumni - we love to tailgate at home football games in the fall! Spending time with my family is my favorite thing to do. I am so very blessed to work with the absolutely incredible Mrs. Beth Furlong each day. She is a mom to 5 amazing children (2 in high school, 1 in college and 2 recent college grads), a former Speech Pathologist and a Fisher Falcon alum, too! Together we really look forward to a wonderful year of learning, laughter, friendships and fun with your child in Preschool!

Dear Parents,

We definitely have 20 apple experts in Room 109 who can tell you all sorts of facts about apples and how they grow! We continued our apple learning this week with apple measuring with unifix cubes, counting seeds inside apples and playing an apple name game where the Preschoolers had to find the apple with their name on it when it was their turn. We enjoyed singing some apple songs and poems and reading some more apple themed stories. Of course, a highlight of the week was making our own apple pies in a cup! The Preschoolers crumbled up a graham cracker, added chunky applesauce and topped it with whipped cream – yum!

We learned all about letter Cc this week! The Preschoolers learned the special sound the letter makes, identified and brainstormed many new words that begin with the letter and practiced printing the upper and lowercase letter. We read the sweet story “Corduroy” and made our own Corduroy bear craft!

In religion, we were so lucky to have the chance to learn more about Saints, and specifically St. Francis of Assisi, from Fr. Ken in the Church. After telling us about St. Francis and showing us his own stuffed animal dogs, Fr. Ken blessed the stuffed animals of all our Preschoolers. Thank you Fr. Ken for such a meaningful and wonderful learning opportunity for our students!

We also met our Fourth Grade Prayer Partners this week. Each child was given a fourth grade buddy who will be their partner for many activities and fun throughout the year. We will pray for our buddy throughout the year and they will be praying for us too! This week, each fourth grade buddy helped their Preschooler assemble Mr. Bones, our life-size skeletons! We had a great time working together and getting to know our new friends! We look forward to lots of fun together throughout the year with our Prayer Partners!

Fiona was our fabulous Star of the Week this week! She did an awesome job telling us all about her favorite things and sharing her favorite story and toy with us! We are working on a special book for Fiona to tell her all the many ways she is so very special to us! Hooray for Fiona!! :-)

Just a reminder that there is no school next Monday (October 14th) for Columbus Day. Enjoy your three day weekend!

As always, please feel free to email me at with any questions or concerns. Mrs. Furlong and I are so proud of your children! This week with letter “Cc” we reviewed what the word caring means and some ideas of how we can all be caring. They came up with so many wonderful ideas and have been putting their ideas in action too. They sure make us smile! :-)

Have a great week!
