Ms. Katie Fadden, Preschool

Welcome to St. John Fisher Preschool! My name is Katie Fadden and I couldn't be more excited to be your child's teacher this year. This is my ninth year teaching Preschool at St. John Fisher and I truly love teaching this age group - Preschool is the best! Prior to teaching, I attended St. Germaine School, Mother McAuley High School and Saint Mary's of Notre Dame where I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and minors in Reading and Early Childhood Education. I have one older brother, Dan, who is a Northwestern University alumni - we love to tailgate at home football games in the fall! Spending time with my family is my favorite thing to do. I am so very blessed to work with the absolutely incredible Mrs. Beth Furlong each day. She is a mom to 5 amazing children (2 in high school, 1 in college and 2 recent college grads), a former Speech Pathologist and a Fisher Falcon alum, too! Together we really look forward to a wonderful year of learning, laughter, friendships and fun with your child in Preschool!

Dear Parents,

We had another spook-tacular week in Preschool! The Preschoolers are thoroughly enjoying all of our Halloween themed activities and read alouds. This week we read the story “10 Timid Ghosts” and even acted it out by having 10 children be the ghosts and the other 10 children be the characters in the story that try to spook the ghosts out of the Haunted House. They were adorable! We then practiced identifying the numbers 1 -10 and putting ghost numbers in order on our ten frame. We sent the game home so you can continue to play and practice at home! We also made a cute “guess who’s hiding under the ghost?” craft where each child decorated and cut out their own ghost and answered some clues about themselves. When you lift up the ghost, it is an adorable Preschooler - BOO! We also reviewed shapes and made a cute shape witch. The Preschoolers are doing a wonderful job practicing their Halloween songs and poems each day – we are so excited to perform for you on Halloween morning! You are welcome to join us Halloween morning to listen to an adorable little Halloween show and take some precious photos! The preschoolers are welcome to wear their costumes to school on this day (reminder – no weapons of any kind and please no high heels! Please also make sure your child is still able to use the bathroom in his/her costume) and are invited to bring a wrapped treat to pass out to their friends. We have 20 children in Room 109 and please no nuts as we have an allergy!

We learned all about letter “Ee” this week. We learned that Ee makes two sounds – such as in eagle and egg. We want to remember the short e sound as in egg! The Preschoolers practiced how to print the upper and lowercase letter and we even played some fun letter Ee games on our Smartboard. They sure are doing excellent!

In religion, we reviewed the story of Noah’s Ark and also spent some time reviewing sharing and being a loving and kind friend, just like Jesus. We continue to work to be bucket fillers in Room 109! :-)

Just to mark on your calendars, Wednesday, December 18th will be our precious Preschool Christmas Concert at 12:00 p.m. They will not come to school for regular hours on this day but rather will come all dressed up in their Christmas best shortly before noon and will be dismissed following the concert. More information to come but wanted to make sure to give you the date – all are welcome! It is always a highlight of the Christmas season for everyone!

As always, please feel free to email me at with any questions or concerns. Have a wonderful week!
