Ms. Katie Fadden, Preschool

Welcome to St. John Fisher Preschool! My name is Katie Fadden and I couldn't be more excited to be your child's teacher this year. This is my ninth year teaching Preschool at St. John Fisher and I truly love teaching this age group - Preschool is the best! Prior to teaching, I attended St. Germaine School, Mother McAuley High School and Saint Mary's of Notre Dame where I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and minors in Reading and Early Childhood Education. I have one older brother, Dan, who is a Northwestern University alumni - we love to tailgate at home football games in the fall! Spending time with my family is my favorite thing to do. I am so very blessed to work with the absolutely incredible Mrs. Beth Furlong each day. She is a mom to 5 amazing children (2 in high school, 1 in college and 2 recent college grads), a former Speech Pathologist and a Fisher Falcon alum, too! Together we really look forward to a wonderful year of learning, laughter, friendships and fun with your child in Preschool!

Dear Preschool Parents,

We sure are ready and excited for Halloween in Preschool! The boys and girls have been working so hard each day practicing their songs and poems that they are looking forward to performing for you on Thursday morning! I think you will be as impressed as we are – they sure sound adorable! This week in Preschool we read tons of favorite Halloween stories and the Preschoolers really enjoyed doing a Halloween themed write the room. We learned more about bats, including how they sleep during the daytime and sleep upside down, and made a really cute bat craft. A highlight of our week was getting together with our fourth grade buddies to graph, sort and count a bag of Halloween candy corn mix.

We learned all about letter Ff this week and will continue learning a little more about the letter as well as reviewing letters Aa-Ff next week since we will be pretty busy on Thursday with all of our Halloween fun! We have been practicing how to print the upper and lowercase letter and learned the special sound the letter Ff makes. We followed clues to guess items that begin with Ff and the Preschoolers have been doing fantastic identifying lots of new words that they think of that begin with Ff!

In religion, we read and discussed the story of young Joseph. We learned how his dad gave him a very special, colorful coat which made his brothers quite jealous. After reading and discussing the story, the boys and girls worked on a dot-to-dot picture of the story to add to their bibles.

We also participated in some safety drills this week, including a lockdown practice on Tuesday and a bus evacuation drill on Friday. The Preschoolers did absolutely wonderful – we were so very proud of them!

We have been celebrating some very special stars of the week in Room 109! Nikki was our star this week, Tommy the week before and Gia the week before that! All three were excellent stars of the week and we loved learning more about each of them! They did a great job showing their posters and answering questions from their friends and brought books and show and tell items from home that they were excited to share with the class. We also made a special class book for each of them to tell them all the many ways they are so wonderful! Hooray for Nikki, Tommy and Gia!!! You are all so very special to us!! :-)

Some important reminders…

- Wednesday is an early dismissal day for all full-day students with dismissal at 1:45 p.m. Extended Day is available so please just send me a note or email if your child will be attending extended day or going home with another caregiver other than who they normally go home with.

- We would love to have you join us at the beginning of the day on Thursday to listen to some spooky and adorable Halloween songs and poems! You are welcome to walk your child into school on this morning (they can leave their backpacks, treats and folder in their locker.) It should be short and sweet for those of you who need to continue on to work – it will likely end around 8:20 a.m.

- The Preschoolers are welcome to wear their costumes to school on Thursday. No guns/weapons however and please ensure that your child will still be able to use the restroom. They also are welcome to bring a wrapped treat to pass out to their friends – we have 20 children in Room 109 and no nuts please as we do have an allergy! We are looking forward to a really fun day in Preschool!

- If your family would like to participate in the SOAR family pumpkin contest, decorated pumpkins can be brought down to Kane Hall Tuesday morning from 7:30-7:50 a.m.

As always, please feel free to email me at with any questions or concerns. Have a wonderful week and hope to see you on Thursday! Happy Halloween!
