Ms. Katie Fadden, Preschool

Welcome to St. John Fisher Preschool! My name is Katie Fadden and I couldn't be more excited to be your child's teacher this year. This is my ninth year teaching Preschool at St. John Fisher and I truly love teaching this age group - Preschool is the best! Prior to teaching, I attended St. Germaine School, Mother McAuley High School and Saint Mary's of Notre Dame where I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and minors in Reading and Early Childhood Education. I have one older brother, Dan, who is a Northwestern University alumni - we love to tailgate at home football games in the fall! Spending time with my family is my favorite thing to do. I am so very blessed to work with the absolutely incredible Mrs. Beth Furlong each day. She is a mom to 5 amazing children (2 in high school, 1 in college and 2 recent college grads), a former Speech Pathologist and a Fisher Falcon alum, too! Together we really look forward to a wonderful year of learning, laughter, friendships and fun with your child in Preschool!

Preschool News 11/10/19

Dear Preschool Parents,

Last week in Preschool we spent the week learning about and exploring leaves and the ways in which they change during the Fall season. We read many stories that helped us learn more about leaves including the different colors they can be, what their function is, how they change each season and more! The Preschoolers worked hard on their own leaf color emergent reader book and enjoyed reading it as a class and with friends. They also used watercolor paints to paint their own beautiful fall leaf and had fun mixing various paint colors in a bag to create special sensory fall leaves. We also started talking about how November is the month of Thanksgiving and a good time for us to think about the many things in our lives that we are grateful for. Each day this month we are working on a special thankful journal page where the Preschoolers each think of one new thing they are thankful for. We will be compiling these thankful journal pages into a keepsake book that will go home before Thanksgiving. The Preschoolers also each decorated a large turkey feather for our classroom turkey and we learned a Thanksgiving poem called “A Turkey Is A Funny Bird!”

We learned all about letter Gg this week. The Preschoolers learned the special sound letter Gg makes and practiced how to print the upper and lowercase version. We played a game where they had to pick a piece of “garbage” (a crumbled up piece of paper with a letter on it) and tell the class what letter they picked. If they picked our letter of the week, they put their “garbage” in the Gg garbage can. If they picked another letter, they put it in the not Gg garbage can. They did great!

In religion, we read the story of Baby Moses. After discussing the story, the Preschoolers worked on a dot-to-dot picture of the story to add to their bibles.

We were treated to a wonderful visit from Mrs. Regina Biros, author of “Louie the Lion,” who read her sweet story to our Preschoolers while some fifth grade students beautifully acted it out!

Just some reminders…
