Ms. Katie Fadden, Preschool

Welcome to St. John Fisher Preschool! My name is Katie Fadden and I couldn't be more excited to be your child's teacher this year. This is my ninth year teaching Preschool at St. John Fisher and I truly love teaching this age group - Preschool is the best! Prior to teaching, I attended St. Germaine School, Mother McAuley High School and Saint Mary's of Notre Dame where I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and minors in Reading and Early Childhood Education. I have one older brother, Dan, who is a Northwestern University alumni - we love to tailgate at home football games in the fall! Spending time with my family is my favorite thing to do. I am so very blessed to work with the absolutely incredible Mrs. Beth Furlong each day. She is a mom to 5 amazing children (2 in high school, 1 in college and 2 recent college grads), a former Speech Pathologist and a Fisher Falcon alum, too! Together we really look forward to a wonderful year of learning, laughter, friendships and fun with your child in Preschool!

Dear Parents,

As Thanksgiving quickly approaches, we sure have a lot to be thankful for in Room 109! The constant sweet smiles and laughs, caring and kind friendships and genuine love of learning that Mrs. Furlong and I get to witness every day with your children are such a blessing to us. Thank you for sharing your most precious gifts with us this year – we are so thankful for each of your amazing children!

This week in Preschool, we were very busy with all things Thanksgiving! We have been reading stories and learning about the first Thanksgiving and why we celebrate it. We know Thanksgiving is a special time of year that reminds us to think about all the wonderful things and people that we are so happy and thankful to have in our lives. The Preschoolers are thinking of some wonderful ideas through their thankful journals that they are making. They also are working very hard on creating a special Thanksgiving book that depicts the story of the First Thanksgiving. The Preschoolers made adorable colorful paper plate turkeys and had a blast making their large paper bag turkeys with their fourth grade buddy! We have been enjoying playing “The Turkey Hop” and practicing manners with “Please Pass the Peas” (two fun songs/games!) To continue our theme of thankfulness, we are looking forward to seeing your family’s thankful plate on Wednesday! Thank you so much for your help in this special project!

We also learned about Veteran’s Day and how thankful we are for the brave men and women who protect our country. Additionally, we started assessing for progress reports that will be given out to you during parent teacher conferences. We are so proud of the hard work and growth (in so many ways!) that we are observing in each of your children!

We learned all about letter Hh this week! The Preschoolers learned the special sound the letter makes and practiced how to write the upper and lowercase letter. They identified so many new words that begin with the Hh sound and had fun playing with some new Hh toys including hand clappers and playing “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes!”

In religion this week, we read and discussed the story of Moses and the parting of the red sea. After talking about the story, the Preschoolers worked on a dot-to-dot page for their bibles.

Annie was our super special Star of the Week this week! We enjoyed learning more about Annie as she shared her poster with us and answered some questions from the class. She also shared a favorite story with us and brought in a toy to show and tell. The Preschoolers made a special book for Annie to tell her all the many ways she is so wonderful! Hooray for Annie – you are so very special to us!!! :-)

Just some reminders…

- Next Monday and Tuesday (Nov. 25th and 26th) are half days of school for the students due to Parent Teacher Conferences. I really look forward to meeting with you next week and sharing the progress of each of your children! If you are not able to make either date, please let me know and I am happy to set up an alternative time with you. Please also let me know if you need any assistance with the online scheduling.

- There is no school November 27th – November 29th for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

- Save the Date - our Preschool Christmas Concert is Wednesday December 18th! The Preschoolers do not have regular class hours on this day, they come just for the very special performance!
