February News

Dear Kindergarten Families,

February promises to be a busy month in Kindergarten.  (aren’t they all??!!)  Our new theme is “Friends Around the World.”  This theme will carry over since the world is a big place and we would like to incorporate St. Patrick and  St. Joseph in our plans! Our grand finale arrives in May when we enjoy a fiesta!   The following are a few things that we will work on this month:

Religion:  Friends around the World,  I Can Love, Valentine’s Day and Bible Stories

Reading:  Name, shape, sound and sign for letters:  Ll, Gg and blending letter sounds into words.

Word wall words:  are, that, do, and number words one through ten.

Math:  100th day activities, counting by ones, fives, tens to 100 / represent, count, and write to twenty and beyond!

Art:  Friends around the World, President’s Day, Valentine’s Day

Social Studies:  Friends around the World, President’s Day

Dates to remember:

February 14th ~ celebrate Valentine’s Day!  Children are invited to pass out Valentines to entire class.  PLEASE do NOT put names on envelopes! Children may bring a WRAPPED treat if you wish.

Week of February 11

Posted on Feb 11, 2019

What a beautiful Confirmation! Congratulations to all our 8th graders! The students did a wonderful  job preparing for and participating in their Confirmation ceremony. I’m still in awe of the beautiful mural some of the 8th graders created!

The students turned in their Romeo and Juliet five paragraph essays last week. They really worked hard on these and I’m enjoying reading all their insightful comparisions. This week, we are working on planning and delivering an Informative speech. The students will choose their topic and begin researching and learning how to put their research in an outline form. Hopefully they will ask you to listen to their final speech before delivering it later this week or early next week.

This week we are learning more about prepositions, conjunctions and interjections. There will be a grammar quiz at the end of this week or early next week. The trimester ends March 1. Please help me in reminding the students to continue to work on their Accelerated Reader points. 30 points are due at the end of the trimester.

There will be a Valentine’s dress down on Thursday. Students can dress down if they bring $2 for Special Olympics. I’m sure the 8th graders are excited for their ski trip this Friday! I’ll pray for great weather and a memorable and safe experience for all our students and parents. Have a great week!
