Mrs. Laura Kovatch, Fourth Grade

Hi! My name is Laura Kovatch and I teach fourth grade Language Arts and Spelling. This is my fourteenth year here at St. John Fisher, and I feel so lucky to be part of such a wonderful school community. Outside of school, I love to travel and spend time with my family, especially my beautiful daughter Katelyn. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year together!

Welcome back!  I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter and a relaxing break.  We will be very busy this week, as we have our Aspire testing.  We will be testing Tuesday-Friday.  Students need at least four sharpened #2 pencils and a good eraser for the test.  We have talked about doing our best and using the tests as an opportunity to show what we know!

Language Arts-This week we will learn about object pronouns.  We will also begin learning about types of figurative language.

Science-We will continue our study of sound this week.

Spelling-We are on Unit 30 this week, and we will have a test on Friday.

Have a terrific week!

Week of April 10th

Posted on Apr 10, 2017

I can't believe it is already time for Easter!  We may have a short week, but we will continue working hard in 4th grade!

Language Arts-We will continue learning about pronouns.  We have covered subject pronouns and will be working on pronoun-verb agreement.  Final copies of Earth Day opinion papers are due on Tuesday.  The students did a great job discussing, planning, and writing for this assignment.  We will complete a timed writing prompt this week as well.

Science-We will continue our study of sound and waves.

Spelling-We will not have a spelling test this week.

Please remember to bring your dimes for our collection!

Have a great week, a wonderful Easter, and a relaxing break.

Happy Easter!

***The week we return from break we have Aspire testing. We will be testing Tuesday-Friday. Each student will need five sharpened number 2 pencils with erasers.  No mechanical pencils can be used.  Thank you!

Week of April 3rd

Posted on Apr 03, 2017

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

Language Arts-We will finish up learning about prepositions and prepositional phrases this week.  We will also begin learning all about pronouns.  We will have a quiz on unit 12 in our vocabulary book on Thursday.   This week we will be practicing our argumentative writing skills.  The students will be picking an issue we have talked about and writing an essay stating the side of the issue they took and why.  Since Earth Day is coming up later this month, the issues we will be writing about have to do with activities that affect our environment.  We have had some great discussions so far!

Science-We will finish up talking about light this week, and then we will move on to study sound.

Spelling-We are on unit 29 this week, and our test will be on Friday.

*Special Lunch is on Wednesday.

Last week we had a wonderful presentation by Ann Signorelli from the Pro Labore Dei project.  She talked to the students about our "a dime a day can make a difference" campaign.  She shared stories about the people who we can help through our donations.  I know her talk touched my heart, and the students' hearts as well.  Please remember to bring in your dimes to help make this project a success!

Have a terrific week!
