Mrs. Laura Kovatch, Fourth Grade

Hi! My name is Laura Kovatch and I teach fourth grade Language Arts and Science. This is my eleventh year here at St. John Fisher, and I feel so lucky to be part of such a wonderful school community. Outside of school, I love to travel and spend time with my family, especially my beautiful daughter Katelyn. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year together!

Week of December 17th

Posted on Dec 17, 2018

I can't believe this our last week of school before Christmas!  We have an extremely busy and fun-filled week ahead of us!

Language Arts-We will be finishing up our Christmas Around the World reports.  Final copies are due on Thursday.  We have completed our unit on verbs, and our test will be on Thursday.  Reviews will be sent home on Tuesday and need to be completed for class on Wednesday.

Science-We will finish up our study of the digestive system this week!  We will have an open-notebook quiz on the digestive system on Wednesday.  After break we will move on to study the circulatory system!

Spelling-We are on Unit 16 this week, and we will have a test on Friday.

*Christmas break would be a good time to replenish any school supplies that may have run out or been lost.

This week we also have some fun events that will certainly get us into the Christmas spirit!

-On Monday we will enjoy a performance by the McAuley Acapella Choir.

-Get your festive gear ready for Thursday! Students can be out of uniform in their favorite ugly Christmas sweater! We will also get to see the kindergarten Christmas play this afternoon.

-On Friday students should dress in their Sunday best.  Students will enjoy their milk and cookies in the morning, but they can also bring an additional snack/light lunch for later in the morning if needed.  We will attend our school prayer service at 11:30, and then dismissal is at 12:30.

-We will also do our Secret Santa gift exchange on Friday.  Please remember to bring your present for the exchange!

I want to wish everyone a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!  I hope everyone enjoys some rest and relaxation and makes some terrific new memories with family and friends!

Week of December 10th

Posted on Dec 10, 2018

Excitement is filling the air, as the countdown to Christmas begins!  I hope everyone had a great weekend, and I'm sure the students enjoyed their Friday off!

Language Arts-This week we will finish up helping and main verbs, and will move on to progressive forms of verbs and irregular verbs.  Our test on our verb unit will be next Thursday, December 20th.  We will also be writing our Christmas Around the World rough drafts this week.  The students began researching their assigned country last week, and we will now organize all of that information into a paper and presentation.

Science-We have finished our study of the nervous system.  There will be an open-notebook quiz on Wednesday.  We move on to study the digestive system next!

Spelling-We are on Unit 15 this week, and our test will be on Friday.

*The students in Room 212 will have a chance to participate in a Secret Santa gift exchange.  Each student will pick a classmate's name and buy a $5.00 gift for that person.  We will do the exchange on Friday, the 21st.  A note giving permission to participate is being sent home today.  Please sign the form if you agree to let your child participate.  Thank you!

**We had a wonderful time on our field trip to the Museum of Science and Industry last week!  The students got to find the tree that represents their country in the Christmas Around the World exhibit.  They also loved seeing the baby chicks, learning about tornadoes, and exploring all about the human body. Thank you to all of the chaperones who joined us and helped the kids have a great time!

Here are some pictures from the trip!
