Mrs. Laura Kovatch, Fourth Grade

Hi! My name is Laura Kovatch and I teach fourth grade Language Arts and Spelling. This is my fourteenth year here at St. John Fisher, and I feel so lucky to be part of such a wonderful school community. Outside of school, I love to travel and spend time with my family, especially my beautiful daughter Katelyn. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year together!

I can't believe it is the end of January already!

Science-This week we will begin learning about the respiratory system.

Spelling-We are on Unit 20, and our test will be on Friday.

We also have some fun activities planned for Catholic Schools Week!

Monday-We will be doing a STEM activity with our prayer partners.

Tuesday-We will be playing some fun carnival games in the gym.

Wednesday-We will be collecting for Ronald McDonald House.  Students that bring in a donation can be out of uniform.  Fourth grade's assigned donation item is canned chicken or tuna.  The St. Rita Band will also be performing for us in the afternoon.

Thursday-We will be making Valentine's Day cards for Hope Hospital with our prayer partners.

Friday-Students can dress down in SJF spirit wear for the Faculty vs. SOAR volleyball game.

Thanks to all who were able to stop by Open House yesterday.  It was wonderful to see everyone! Reflecting on Catholic Schools Week and Mrs. Nash's homily from mass, I want to thank all of you for choosing SJF.  I feel so privileged to be your child's teacher and to be part of this wonderful school and community.  Have a wonderful week! Stay warm!

Blood Models Moved to Thursday

Posted on Jan 22, 2019

Due to the icy weather we are predicted to have this afternoon and tonight, we will move our blood models until Thursday.  I don't want anyone who still needs supplies to be worried about getting them or not having them for tomorrow.  Thanks!

Week of January 21st

I hope everyone had a nice weekend!

This will be a short, but busy week!

Language Arts-We will finish our unit on adjectives this week.  We will have a unit test on Wednesday, January 30th.  Final copies of our Martin Luther Jr. papers are due this Wednesday, the 23rd.

Science-We will complete our study of the circulatory system this week, and then we will move on to the respiratory system.  On Wednesday we will be making our own models of blood.  The students worked with their groups last week to plan out their models.  All students will need to bring an empty water bottle and whatever supplies they planned for with their group.

Spelling-We are on Unit 19 this week, and our test will be on Friday.

*Wednesday, the 23rd, is an out of uniform day. Students can dress as a scholar, their favorite teacher, or in their favorite high school/college gear.  All donations will go toward the Scholastic Team.

**Our Catholic Schools Week celebration begins on Sunday at the 10 o'clock mass. Following mass, you can come visit the school and see all of the great things that are happening at SJF. Come stop by and see what the kids have been working on!  I hope to see you on Sunday!

Have a great week!

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend!

Language Arts-We will continue our study of adjectives this week, and we will discuss using adjectives to compare.  On Tuesday we have our unit 6 vocabulary quiz.  We will also be writing our Martin Luther King Jr. papers this week.  The students have done a really good job researching and gathering information to use in their pieces.

Science-We will continue our study of the circulatory system.  We will have an open-notebook quiz on Friday.  Next week we will be making our own models of blood.  The students will work with their groups this week to plan out their models.  We will be making our models on Wednesday, the 23rd, and all students will need to bring an empty water bottle and whatever supplies they planned for with their group.  The students have really enjoyed learning about what makes up our blood, and I know they will enjoy creating their models!

Spelling-We are on Unit 18 this week, and our test will be on Friday.

Have a wonderful week, and remember there is no school next Monday, the 21st.

Happy New Year!  I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and enjoyed some terrific times making memories with family and friends!  The kids were all so excited to share some tidbits from their holiday break.  It seems like great times were had by all!

We will be getting right back to work in our classes this week!

Language Arts-We will begin our new unit on adjectives.  We will also begin working with our unit 6 vocabulary words.  This week we will also begin researching and learning more about Martin Luther King Jr. for our next writing assignment.

Science-We will start learning about the circulatory system this week.

Spelling-We are on Unit 17 this week, and our test will be on Friday.

This week we will also be discussing New Year’s resolutions.  The students will be thinking about some goals they have for 2019 and for the rest of the school year.  We will also be working on a school resolution this year to “Be the Nice Kid.”  Over break, a group of 8th graders painted a mural in the main hallway near the gym which will serve as the inspiration for this resolution.  It reads:

Finally, I want to thank everyone for the thoughtful and generous Christmas gifts! I really appreciate it, and I am so grateful to work with such wonderful students and families every day. Have a terrific week!
