Mrs. Laura Kovatch, Fourth Grade

Hi! My name is Laura Kovatch and I teach fourth grade Language Arts and Science. This is my eleventh year here at St. John Fisher, and I feel so lucky to be part of such a wonderful school community. Outside of school, I love to travel and spend time with my family, especially my beautiful daughter Katelyn. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year together!

Week of February 18th

Posted on Feb 20, 2019

I hope everyone enjoyed their President's Day weekend!

Language Arts-We will continue learning about adverbs this week and practice using them to compare.  We will also discuss how to use good and well correctly.  We will work on unit 7 in our vocabulary books as well. Our unit 7 vocabulary quiz will be next Tuesday, the 26th.  The students did a wonderful job on their President's Day opinion pieces.  They were so passionate about the side they took!  It was great to see them so engaged in their writing.  Our next major writing assignment will center around Women's History Month.

Science-We have completed our study of the human body.  Our test will be on Thursday.  Please study the review sheet that was sent home last week!  We will be making our human body shirts on Wednesday.  This is a favorite fourth grade activity!  The kids love wearing them for the rest of the school to see, and they are ready to share their knowledge with anyone who asks! The students will keep them at school to wear for the remainder of the week, and then they can bring them home on Friday.   Remember not to wash it if Crayola washable markers were used :)  I will post pictures of the students in their shirts later this week!

Spelling-We are on Unit 23 this week, and our test will be on Friday.

Have a terrific week!

Week of February 11th

Posted on Feb 11, 2019

I hope everyone had a nice weekend!  I can't believe that we will be celebrating Valentine's Day this week!  The year is certainly flying by.  Students can bring in a wrapped treat and/or valentines on Thursday if they would like.  We have 20 students in Room 212.  On Valentine's Day we will also be collecting donations for Special Olympics. Students can be out of uniform on Valentine's Day with a $2.00 donation.

Language Arts-We will continue our study of adverbs.  We will practice identifying them in sentences and using them to compare.  We will also continue to work on our President's Day opinion pieces.  On Wednesday we will have our unit 7 vocabulary quiz.

Science-We are wrapping up our study of the human body.  This week we will discuss our last system; the muscular system.  I have decided to reschedule the human body test until next Thursday, the 21st.  A note about our human body t-shirts project will be coming home this week.  Please bring your plain white shirts in by Tuesday, the 18th.  This is always an activity that the students really enjoy, and I know that they are already looking forward to it!

Spelling-We are on Unit 22 this week, and our test will be on Friday.

Remember, in honor of President's Day there is no school next Monday, the 18th.

Have a terrific week!
