Mrs. Laura Kovatch, Fourth Grade

Hi! My name is Laura Kovatch and I teach fourth grade Language Arts and Spelling. This is my fourteenth year here at St. John Fisher, and I feel so lucky to be part of such a wonderful school community. Outside of school, I love to travel and spend time with my family, especially my beautiful daughter Katelyn. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year together!

Week of April 29th

Posted on Apr 29, 2019

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter and nice break from school.  From the students' stories it seems like much fun was had by all!  I can't believe that the month of May is upon us!  The rest of the year is certain to fly by, as we have much to learn and do!

Language Arts-We will be completing our study of figurative language this week.  Our test will be on Tuesday, May 7th.  This week we will do some fun alliteration activities, do a gallery walk of the different types of figurative language we have studied, and use what we have learned to write our own odes.

Science-We will begin our solar system unit this week.  There will be a quiz on our solar system vocabulary words and the order of the planets next Wednesday, the 8th.

Spelling-We are on Unit 31 this week, and we will have a test on Friday.

Reminders:*On Tuesday we will be attending a heath fair hosted by our SXU nurses.  The students need to wear their gym uniforms.

**Wednesday is Special Lunch from Buona Beef.

Have a great week!

Here are some pictures from our "Bring An Idiom To School" Day before break!

Week of April 8th

Posted on Apr 08, 2019

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  I can't believe it is our last week of school before Spring Break! We have a busy and exciting week ahead!

We are really excited for our field to trip Naper Settlement on Tuesday! Thank you to all the parent who volunteered to chaperone. I wish we could bring everyone with us, but unfortunately for this trip we are only allowed one chaperone.  There will be an upcoming opportunity for parents to volunteer to help us build and launch our rockets, so we are not done needing parent volunteers for the year!  For the field trip, students need to wear their gym uniforms and bring a bag lunch.  Wednesday marks the middle of the third trimester.  On Friday we will attend our all-school prayer service and reflect on all that God has done for us.

In class this week:

Language Arts-We will continue our figurative language unit.  Students will be bringing an idiom to school on Friday.  Directions for the project were sent home today.  We also have our unit 10 vocabulary quiz on Tuesday.

Science-We have our energy and heat test on Wednesday.  We will also be working on an Earth Day project.

Spelling-We are on Unit 30 this week, and our test will be on Friday.

Have a wonderful week!  I hope everyone has a terrific break and a Happy Easter!  I will see you back at school on April 25th!
