Mrs. Laura Kovatch, Fourth Grade

Hi! My name is Laura Kovatch and I teach fourth grade Language Arts and Spelling. This is my fourteenth year here at St. John Fisher, and I feel so lucky to be part of such a wonderful school community. Outside of school, I love to travel and spend time with my family, especially my beautiful daughter Katelyn. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year together!

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend!

Thanks to all who were able to stop by Open House yesterday. It was wonderful to see everyone! Reflecting on Catholic Schools Week and Mrs. Nash's homily from mass, I want to thank all of you for choosing SJF.  I feel so privileged to be your child's teacher and to be part of this wonderful school and community.

Language Arts-We will continue working with adjectives this week and begin our next vocabulary unit.  We will also begin discussing and planning our next writing assignment.

Science-This week we will begin learning about the respiratory system.

Spelling-We are on Unit 20, and our test will be on Friday.

*There will be no formal written homework in any of our subject areas this week.  Instead, we will be completing assignments for our Kindness Week!  A sheet detailing each day’s assignment was given out on Monday.  The students are to complete each night’s assignment and turn in whatever is due the next day.

We also have some fun activities planned for Catholic Schools Week!

Monday-We will enjoy a visit from the St. Rita Band!

Tuesday-We will be playing trivia with our prayer partners!

Wednesday-We will be completing a fun STEM project with our preschool buddies!

Friday-Students can dress down in SJF spirit wear, and we will attend the Fisher Falcon Olympics!

Have a wonderful week! Stay warm!

Week of January 20th

I hope everyone had a nice weekend!

This will be a short, but busy week!

Language Arts-We have our verb unit test on Thursday.  We will then begin our new unit on adjectives. We will also continue working with “Snowflake Bentley”, our mentor text from last week.  We learned about similes and have been practicing writing many of our own.  This week we will be creating a “Simile Snowflake” to show what we have learned.

Science-We will complete our study of the circulatory system this week, and then we will move on to the respiratory system.  We will have an open-notebook quiz on Thursday.  On Friday, we will be making our own models of blood.  The students worked with their group to plan out their models.  All students will need to bring an empty water bottle and whatever supplies they planned for with their group.  Thanks for your help with this project!  The students have really enjoyed learning about what makes up our blood, and I know they will enjoy creating their models!

Spelling-We are on Unit 19 this week, and our test will be on Friday.

*Friday, the 24th, is an out of uniform day. Students can dress in red, white, and blue with a $1.00 donation.  All of the money collected will go to a veterans charity.

**Our Catholic Schools Week celebration begins on Sunday at the 10 o'clock mass. Following mass, you can come visit the school and see all of the great things that are happening at SJF. Come stop by and see what the kids have been working on!  I hope to see you on Sunday!

Have a great week!
