Mrs. Laura Kovatch, Fourth Grade

Hi! My name is Laura Kovatch and I teach fourth grade Language Arts and Science. This is my thirteenth year here at St. John Fisher, and I feel so lucky to be part of such a wonderful school community. Outside of school, I love to travel and spend time with my family, especially my beautiful daughter Katelyn. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year together!

Week of November 30th

Posted on Nov 30, 2020

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and a relaxing extended weekend!  I can't believe that we will be turning the calendar to December and that our 1st trimester has come to an end!  Our year is certainly moving along quickly. Report Cards will be distributed on Thursday.  Please sign and return the envelope on Friday.

I want to thank everyone for attending parent-teacher conferences last week. It was so nice to talk with you all and get to know everyone better.  It was definitely different, but I am thankful that we still had an opportunity to "meet" each other and talk about the year so far! Thank you again for your support and for your commitment to working together to ensure a successful year.

Also, just a reminder for anyone who needs it: There is another picture day this Thursday, December 1st.  If anyone still needs their picture taken, make sure to dress-up that day!

Here is some information for English and Science this week:

English-This week we will start our unit on verbs.  We will start learning about the different verb tenses. We will also begin our next writing assignment.

Science-We will begin our study of the human body.  This week we will learn all about cells!

I hope everyone enjoyed the nice weather this weekend!  Here is some information for English and Science this week.

English-We are finishing up our unit on nouns and will be learning all about possessive nouns this week.  We will have our unit 2 test on Thursday, November 19th.  In writing we are continuing to work on our animal adaptation papers.  The students are having fun deciding which animal adaptations they would choose.

Science-We have finished up our animal unit, and we will have a test on Friday.  We will work on our review sheets and go over them in class, then students can use them to study for the test.  I have posted copies of all of the notes from this unit in all of our Science Google Classrooms in case anyone is missing any of them or wants to use them for their review or to study.

**Room 212 Picture Day is on Thursday.  We missed the original picture day, so please be sure to be dressed for pictures that day!

ELA-We will begin our next grammar unit on nouns this week.  We will also start planning our next writing assignment this week.  In conjunction with our mentor text of the week, "What If You Had An Animal Nose?", students will be choosing which animal adaptations they'd like to have and writing about how these physical characteristics would be helpful.

Science-We will continue learning about animal adaptations this week.  We will be discussing physical adaptations and behavioral adaptations.  We will also look at some specific animals and the adaptations that help them survive in their particular environments.
