Mrs. Laura Kovatch, Fourth Grade

Hi! My name is Laura Kovatch and I teach fourth grade Language Arts and Spelling. This is my fourteenth year here at St. John Fisher, and I feel so lucky to be part of such a wonderful school community. Outside of school, I love to travel and spend time with my family, especially my beautiful daughter Katelyn. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year together!

Welcome back!  I am so excited to be back in the classroom with everyone this week!

Thank you again for all of your support and assistance during our remote learning time! I was so proud of how the kids handled remote learning and how well behaved and engaged everyone was during our live meetings!

Some reminders: All of the work completed during remote learning will need to be turned in when we return.  Also, the students will need to bring their IPads and chargers back as well.

Here is some information for English and Science this week:

English-We will continue learning about adjectives this week.  We will be discussing articles and comparing using more and most.  We will also be working on a writing assignment focusing on Martin Luther King Jr.

Science-We will finish up our study of the skeletal system this week.  We will then begin learning about our muscular system and how they work together to help us move!

Have a great week!

Remote Learning January 6th-8th

Posted on Jan 06, 2021

Happy New Year! I hope you all are doing well!  I know the holidays may have been a bit different than usual, but I hope that everyone had a terrific Christmas, enjoyed some much-deserved relaxation, and made some wonderful memories with family and friends.

For our first remote learning day, we will log on together tomorrow at 9:00am. (Just for this day.)  We will meet with only our homeroom class. Please log into our Room 212 English Google Classroom at 9:00am.  We will be sharing our favorite parts of Christmas break, playing a game together, and planning some New Year’s resolutions to make 2021 the best year yet!  I will post this in our English Google Classroom tomorrow, but students should bring their remote learning folders, a pencil, their white boards and a dry erase marker to our live meeting. This will be a check-in day to catch up with each other after our Christmas break and to make sure the students have everything they need and are prepared to begin our full-remote schedule on Thursday. I can’t wait to see everyone tomorrow!

Here are some reminders about how the rest of our remote learning time will look like:

For the most part, the 4th graders will be following their in-school class schedule.  Each class will begin with a live instruction portion through Google Meets.  Attendance for the day will be taken at the beginning of the morning’s first live session.  Attendance will be reported to the office, so if your child will not be in attendance for any reason, you will need to let the office know, just like if we were in school.  Each meeting will then be followed by independent work time for the students. *Please note that we will make the links for the meetings live right before the meetings begin. This will ensure that the teacher is the first to join the meeting and can then control all of the technical aspects of the meeting.  So the kids do not need to worry if they are checking before the meeting and there is not a live link yet.  The teacher will make it live for everyone a couple of minutes before the start time.

As you know, the students have been given packets of all the papers they will need for each subject while we are learning from home.  They have also brought home any books and supplies they will need to complete assignments during this time. It is important that the students have this folder with them and their IPads charged for our live meetings.  Students should also have a pencil and any other books/supplies their teachers post that they will need for specific class meetings.
