Week of November 11th

Posted on Nov 11, 2019

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!  I can't believe how fast the year is going!  Our first trimester ends this Friday!  Report cards will be distributed next Wednesday.

Language Arts-We will begin learning about verbs this week.  We will also begin unit 4 in our vocabulary books.  We are incorporating what we have been learning in science into our next writing assignment.  We learned more about how specific adaptations help certain animals survive using the mentor texts, “What If You Had Animal Teeth?”, “What If You Had an Animal Nose?”, and “What If You Had Animal Ears?”.  The students are now writing about which adaptations they would choose and why.

Science-We have our animal characteristics and adaptations test on Tuesday. We will also be reading and analyzing an article in our Scholastic Super Science magazine entitled, "Extraordinary Eyes”, to find out how the structures of animals' eyes help them survive.  The students will also be conducting a short research project on different animal eyes next week.

Spelling-We are on Unit 12 this week, and our test will be on Friday.

*On Friday we will be attending our all-school Veterans Day prayer service at 1:00.  All are invited to join us and honor our country's veterans.  Also on Friday, we will be collecting money for Honor Flight Chicago.  Students are asked to bring in a donation in order to dress down in red, white, and blue.
