Week of November 18th

Posted on Nov 18, 2019

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend!  This is the first week of the second trimester.  I can't believe how fast the year is going!  Report Cards will be distributed on Wednesday.  Please sign and return the envelope on Thursday.  We will definitely be keeping busy this week and getting lots of learning in before Thanksgiving break begins next Tuesday.

Language Arts-This week we will continue our unit on verbs.  We will be discussing present tense verbs this week.  We will also be working on Unit 4 in our vocabulary books.  Final copies of our animal adaptation writing will be due on Thursday.  Students have been working on this in class, but some final copies may need to be finished at home. This week we will also begin writing letters of thanksgiving to important people in our lives.

Also, please keep a look out for student writing folders that will be coming home toward the end of this week.  Since we have completed the first trimester, we will be reflecting on ways we have improved in our writing and setting goals for things we still want to work on moving forward.  I’m encouraging the students to share their favorite pieces and their goals for next trimester with you!  Writing folders should be returned to school by Monday, the 25th.  Thanks for your participation in this activity.

Science-This week we will finish studying how the structures of animals' eyes help them survive.  We have been reading and analyzing an article in our Scholastic Super Science magazine entitled, "Extraordinary Eyes." Students will be working on drawing diagrams of the eye, writing about how our eye works, and describing some of the incredible eye adaptations animals have!  The students will also be conducting a short research project on different animal eyes during computer class this week.

Spelling-We are on Unit 13 this week, and our test will be on Friday.

Have a wonderful week!
