7th & 8th Grade Religion-Week of April 20th

Posted on Apr 19, 2020

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter as well as the opportunity to enjoy a slower pace to their day resulting from the short break from our e-learning.  We were all saddened with Governor Pritzker’s announcement that our Illinois schools will be closed for the remainder of the school year.  We are aware of the hardship and many disappointments that may result from this decision, but we are also confident that the Governor places the health and safety of our Illinois communities as his number one priority.  Please know that the administration and faculty at Saint John Fisher will do their absolute best to continue to provide our students with a quality education, delivering our curriculum through e-learning lesson plans.  As we receive further information from the Archdiocese, state and local officials, we will make decisions that are in the best interest of our students and parents regarding our end of year celebrations. May we continue to do the best we can for each day, and also continue to pray for all of those affected by COVID-19, as well as those heroes in our society who are working so hard to help the sick, the lonely, and all in need.

*It is extremely important that ALL STUDENTS sign in each day to verify their attendance on e-learning.  All students should be signing in on Ms. Browne’s Math stream.  All Jr. High assignments are posted on the teachers' Jr. High Google classroom streams.

**If there are ever any questions or concerns, students and parents may email their Jr. High teachers from the hours of 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM and can expect to receive a prompt response.  Any emails received after 3:00 PM may be answered the following school day.  The Jr. High teachers will also be hosting live Zoom sessions during the week if students have questions or would just like to sign on to say “hello.”

***Zoom sessions for Religion will take place on Tuesdays and Fridays from 1:00 PM - 1:30 PM.  The link to the Zoom meeting will be placed on the religion stream Tuesday and Friday mornings.

***7th Grade Religion***

This week, we will be returning to our World Religions unit, focusing on Judaism. Thus far, we have covered the history and basic beliefs of Judaism and will be continuing on with the family life, customs, and special ceremonies of those who practice Judaism.

***All students should continue to work on their FIVE hours of required service for this third trimester.  As we have been confined to our home these past couple of months, service hours may be completed by being helpful around the house as well as by performing actions that lift the spirits of others in your community from “a loving social distance.”

***8th Grade Religion***

This week we will be covering chapter 9 in our Morality book. This chapter discusses the Catholic Church's teachings on topics such as premarital sex, homosexuality, and birth control. This chapter discusses the importance of knowing that our sexuality is a gift from God.  It also discusses the virtues of purity, modesty, abstinence and chastity; virtues that guide us to be responsible with our relationships.

***All students should continue to work on their EIGHT hours of required service for this third trimester.  As we have been confined to our home these past couple of months, service hours may be completed by being helpful around the house as well as by performing actions that lift the spirits of others in your community from “a loving social distance.”
