7th & 8th Grade Religion-Week of April 27th

Posted on Apr 26, 2020

We are beginning the home stretch of this third trimester and what a trimester this has been!  After being thrown into a situation we could have never dreamed of, I am so proud of the accomplishments of both our parents and students.  I admire our parents who have given so much of their time with assisting and supervising their children as they completed their e-learning assignments.  I am proud of the students who have been successful with embracing the routine of e-learning at home. We are well aware of the many challenges involved with e-learning, and have seen so many of our students rise to this challenge!  On Wednesday, April 29th, parents and students may check Powerschool for our students' current academic status in each of their classes.

Important Change:

**As Mrs. Nash noted in her newsletter, the archdiocese is instituting planning days for our students and teachers under the guidance of the Illinois State Board of Education. SJF will be designating Fridays as our planning/catch-up days.  Therefore, our block schedule will change to accommodate this by Religion class NOW taking place on Tuesday and Thursday, rather than Tuesday and Friday.  Thursday assignments will not be due until Friday at 3:00 PM allowing students to use Friday as a "catch-up day" for all of their assignments given during the week as well as for completing Art assignments and virtual field trips.

Important Information:

A letter and application materials will be emailed to our 8th grade parents regarding the Monsignor McElligott Scholarship on Monday, April 27th. Please share this letter and application with your son/daughter.  We will be hosting a live Zoom session for parents/students on Wednesday, April 29th at 4:00 PM to explain the application process and answer any questions students/parents may have.**The link for this Zoom meeting will be posted on my blog this upcoming Wednesday morning.

I will also be hosting a live session for students/parents if they have any questions or concerns with e-assignments in my religion classes. These sessions are scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 1:00 PM-1:30 PM.  The link for these meetings will be posted to my Google classroom on Tuesday and Thursday morning.

***7th Grade Religion***

This week, we will conclude with our Unit on Judaism by discussing Jewish holy days and celebrations. We will learning about their origin, significance, and the traditions practiced in celebrating these Jewish holy days.

***Service Hours***

All students should continue to satisfy their FIVE hours of required service. Now that we have been asked to stay close to home, there are even more opportunities for us to help out around the house. Continue to record your service while at home. I will collect service hours through a Google form near the end of the third trimester.

***8th Grade Religion***

This week we will continue on with chapter 9 in our Morality book which discusses the teachings of the Catholic church on prevalent issues in our society such as premarital sex, birth control, and homosexuality.

***Service Hours***

All students should continue to satisfy their EIGHT hours of required service. Now that we have been asked to stay close to home, there are even more opportunities for us to help out around the house. Continue to record your service while at home. I will collect service hours through a Google form near the end of the third trimester.
