Mrs. Maura Grochocinski, Junior High Religion

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year.  We are all looking forward to a successful school year with your child.

A little about myself: due to the difficulty in pronouncing my last name, I am known to the SJF students and to many of the parents as “Mrs. G.”  I live in Most Holy Redeemer parish and my husband and I have been blessed with three wonderful daughters.

This year will be my 20th year teaching at Saint John Fisher. I have taught different grades and various subjects throughout the years. I have enjoyed teaching religion in the Jr. High for the past ten years, watching our students grow both academically and spiritually.

I'm looking forward to an exciting school year with our Jr. High students and can't wait to see them on their first day of school, Wednesday, August 21st.

The celebration of Catholic Schools Week will begin next Sunday at 10:00 mass followed by Open House.  We hope to see you all there!

This week we will be continuing with the Beatitudes and will be discussing how they can be followed and demonstrated in the everyday lives of 7th graders.  We will also be discussing the seven verses of the Our Father, a prayer which expresses our praise for God as our Father, as well as a prayer that expresses our needs and desires to live as children of God who are loving and forgiving. We will also be working on a project which will be displayed in the Jr. High hall which will highlight our 7th graders' Be-Attitudes.

***All students should continue to work on their FIVE hours of required service for this second trimester.

***8th Grade Religion***

This week we will continue with our Confirmation preparation and will continue our discussion of the importance of attending mass.  Attending mass is an opportunity for us to come together as a community to be strengthened by the word of God and to share the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist.  The confirmation candidates will also be starting Confirmation interviews with Father Ken on Tuesday.

There will be a test on the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit this Wednesday.

Confirmation will be celebrated Sunday, February 12th, at 12:00 Mass.   Confirmation materials were distributed to the students last week.  Please note the due date of the various forms and fees. If you have not received this information, please ask your son/daughter about these materials.

***All students should continue to work on their EIGHT hours of required service for this second trimester.
