Mrs. Maura Grochocinski, Junior High Religion

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year.  We are all looking forward to a successful school year with your child.

A little about myself: due to the difficulty in pronouncing my last name, I am known to the SJF students and to many of the parents as “Mrs. G.”  I live in Most Holy Redeemer parish and my husband and I have been blessed with three wonderful daughters.

This year will be my 20th year teaching at Saint John Fisher. I have taught different grades and various subjects throughout the years. I have enjoyed teaching religion in the Jr. High for the past ten years, watching our students grow both academically and spiritually.

I'm looking forward to an exciting school year with our Jr. High students and can't wait to see them on their first day of school, Wednesday, August 21st.

***7th Grade Religion***

This week we will be reviewing for our chapter 2 test on Friday.  We will be correcting the chapter 2 review and study guide on Thursday.  Students should review all class notes and corrected review materials in order to prepare for this test.  They should be well informed on the symbols used in the sacrament of Baptism as well as the meaning of each of the seven sacraments and how they are categorized.

***All Students should continue to work on their FIVE hours of required service for this first trimester.

***8th Grade Religion***

Although it may seem too soon, this week we will be working on a graduation activity in which the students will be illustrating their names with symbols depicting their faith, heritage, interests, and education.  This is always a favorite activity for the students that they take such pride in this project.  Their names will then be laminated and hung in my room for everyone to enjoy all year long.  We will also be starting on Chapter 3 in our Church History book.  This chapter discusses the four ecumenical councils and their contributions to Christianity.

***All students should continue to work on their EIGHT hours of required service for this first trimester

This week, we will be working on our posters that will illustrate this year’s school theme…”Using God’s Gifts, We Can Do AWESOME Things!”  The eighth graders will create and hang posters around our school as a reminder to all of our students of the many AWESOME gifts God has surrounded us with here on earth.  When we use the gifts God has given us, we too can create AWESOME things in our world!

*Students should continue to work on their EIGHT hours of required service for this first trimester.

7th & 8th Grade Religion-Week of Sept. 5th

Posted on Sep 05, 2017

It was such a pleasure seeing and meeting so many of our Jr. High parents last Wednesday at our Back to School Curriculum Night.  Working together, I am confident that we can make this a successful and enjoyable year for all.  This week, the eighth grade class will be hosting our beginning of the year mass on Friday, September 7th at 1:00.  All are welcome!

At this mass, we will be introducing this year's theme to the rest of the students: Faith Can Move Mountains.  We will also be discussing prayer partners;  students pairing up to celebrate and share their faith together at mass, in the classroom and through special activities.

***7th Grade Religion***

This week, we will be completing and correcting the review exercises and study guide for Chapter one in our Blest Are We book.  The chapter one test will be Friday, September 7th.  In order to prepare for this test, students should know all of the vocabulary words for this chapter, review their class notes, and also review the corrected chapter one review and study guide.

***All students should continue to work on their FIVE hours of required service for this first trimester.

***8th Grade Religion***

This week, the eighth graders will be busy preparing for our first all school mass. They will be working on the readings, intercessions, songs, and the presentation of this year's school theme: Faith Can Move Mountains.
