Mrs. Maura Grochocinski, Junior High Religion

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year.  We are all looking forward to a successful school year with your child.

A little about myself: due to the difficulty in pronouncing my last name, I am known to the SJF students and to many of the parents as “Mrs. G.”  I live in Most Holy Redeemer parish and my husband and I have been blessed with three wonderful daughters.

This year will be my 20th year teaching at Saint John Fisher. I have taught different grades and various subjects throughout the years. I have enjoyed teaching religion in the Jr. High for the past ten years, watching our students grow both academically and spiritually.

I'm looking forward to an exciting school year with our Jr. High students and can't wait to see them on their first day of school, Wednesday, August 21st.

7th & 8th Grade Religion-Week of August 26th

Posted on Aug 25, 2019

With a few days of classes under our belts,  I'm hoping our students feel well informed and comfortable with both the academic and behavioral expectations in the Jr. High.  Letters to the parents regarding the 7th and 8th grade Religion curriculum and required service are available on my blog under Parent Information.  I am looking forward to a successful year with all of my students and look forward to seeing all of the 7th & 8th grade parents Wednesday evening, September 4th, at "Meet the Teacher Night."

***7th  Grade Religion***

This week, we will be starting in out textbook Blest Are We.  We will be discussing the role of the gospel writers, their individual accounts of Jesus' life, and the difference in each of their writing styles.  We will also be discussing the term "oral tradition" and the role it played back in the time of Jesus as well as the role it continues to play in our lives today.

***Students should be continuing to work on their FIVE hours of required service for this first trimester.

This week, we will begin discussing this year's school theme "Angels Among Us."  We'll be making posters in class that will display our theme.  These posters will  illustrate how our students can be angels, flying like a falcon, rising above daily challenges, and choose to be "the nice kid."  The posters will then be displayed in our halls to remind all of our SJF students of this year's theme.

***Students should be continuing to work on their EIGHT hours of required service for this first trimester.

Welcome back to the 2019-2020 school year.  I will be teaching seventh and eighth grade religion and am looking forward to reuniting with our eighth grade students as well as meeting and getting acquainted with our seventh grade students.  The teachers in the Jr. High are committed to creating and fostering a positive learning environment in which we hope to see each of our students grow both spiritually and academically.

The Jr. High faculty is very excited to have Mrs. Nash, our Principal, leading Saint John Fisher School in spiritual development and academic excellence.  We welcome all of our new faculty members and are very excited about all of the enhancements we have made to the Jr. High curriculum. We will be meeting with the 7th and 8th grade students on the first day of school and will be discussing the behavioral and academic expectations of the Junior High as well as the directives regarding use and care of their Chrome books.

Effective communication is a very important component of your child's academic and personal success here at St. John Fisher. Please feel free to contact me or any of the other Jr. High teachers with any questions or concerns you may have throughout the school year. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year with your son or daughter.
