Mr Nicholas Kutsulis, Junior High Global Studies

Hello everyone. My name is Mr. Nicholas Kutsulis and I am your new Junior High Global Studies teacher. This is my first year as a teacher and I could not have asked for a better school to get my start at. While this may be my first year as a full-time teacher, I spent this past year as a substitute teacher and coached girls' basketball and baseball at the high school level. I am excited for everything this school year has in store for us, and cannot wait to get started.

Week of June 7th

Posted on Jun 07, 2021

We are in our final week. Any missing assignments need to be turned in as soon as possible as grades are due. This week we will have a connecting current events assignment that we are working on in class for a couple days.

Week of June 1st

Posted on Jun 01, 2021

8th graders enjoy your last week of school and all of the activities.

7th grade is reviewing for their test that they will be taking on Friday. We will have our usual review guide, worksheet and kahoot. It is always important to review the previous quiz and to look at our bellringers.

Week of May 23rd

Posted on May 24, 2021

This week the 8th graders are preparing for and taking the last test of the year. Monday and Tuesday are review days and Wednesday will be the day of the test. This is the last big grade and is important that each student puts in the necessary study time to do well.

7th graders have a quiz on Monday and will be quickly jumping into our last topic, The South prior to the Civil War. This is a shorter module and we will be having a test over both the North and South before the end of the year. Just like the 8th graders, there are not many grades left, so it is important to complete all work and be prepared for the quiz and test.

Week of May 17th

Posted on May 18, 2021

This week we are moving along with material in both seventh and 8th grade. 7th grade will be wrapping up discussions on the North this week to take a quiz early next week. 8th grade is finishing up module 26 on the Great Depression to start preparing for their last test next week.

Week of May 10th

Posted on May 10, 2021

We are heading down the home stretch. This week, the 8th graders are finishing module 25 on Monday to have a quiz on Wednesday. We will then quickly move into module 26 on the Great Depression.

The 7th graders are jumping ahead this week. We will be having a fast-forward day to fill the gap on Monday and pick up with talking about the North before the Civil War. This last month or so of school for 7th grade is to set up the start of next school year, beginning with the Civil War.

Week of May 3rd

Posted on May 03, 2021

Our seventh graders have their test on modules 8 and 10 this week. Review for it started last week, will continue on Monday and Tuesday, for the test to be split over Wednesday and Thursday.

The 8th graders are moving right along with the roaring 20s. They are looking to be on pace for a quiz early next week.

Week of April 26th

Posted on Apr 27, 2021

This week the 8th graders are taking the Illinois Constitution test on Tuesday. We have been reviewing since last week and should be ready to go. When we are done with that, we will be moving back to our normal lessons and picking up with the Roaring 20s.

7th graders are continuing their work on module 10, The Age of Jackson. With the pace that we are on, we will be looking to have a test at some point next week over modules 8 and 10.

Week of April 19th

Posted on Apr 19, 2021

We are moving right along in both 7th and 8th grade. This week, the 8th graders will be finishing any new content that we have for the Illinois Constitution test and will be starting some of the review work. The test will potentially be on Tuesday the 27th if we stick to our schedule.  The 7th graders are quickly moving through module 8 as this is a short, but important module. We will be finishing the content of that on Monday and taking a quiz on it this week, most likely Wednesday.

Week of April 12th

Posted on Apr 13, 2021

Welcome back from spring break. This week, we are getting right back into the swing of things for both 7th and 8th grade. The 7th graders are going back to traditional content, as we are finished with the Constitution test. We will be learning about the War of 1812 for the next little bit. For the 8th graders, they are continuing in the blue books as we move on to the Illinois Constitution. There are a lot of similarities and less material to cover, so the hope is to take the test in about 3 weeks.

Week of March 29th

Posted on Mar 28, 2021

We are almost at spring break but that does not mean our work stops, especially for seventh graders. This week, they are taking a Constitution practice test on Monday, review day on Tuesday and then the actual Constitution test on Wednesday. Any students who are not going to be at school for the test will have to make it up after spring break. It is important that students are reviewing each night here before the test. The best tool for that is the blue book that we have. If your child is going to take the test after break, they should definitely bring their blue book home over break to have to look at before they return.

Eighth graders are complete with the U.S. Constitution, but will be going back to the blue books after spring break to look at the Illinois Constitution. This week, 8th graders are working on a project that is combining both global studies and science. They will be researching the creation and advancements in electricity throughout the 1900s to today from a historical standpoint for global studies and a functionality and development standpoint for science.

Week of March 22nd

Posted on Mar 23, 2021

This week, the 8th graders will be taking their Constitution test on Wednesday in the afternoon. We have reviews on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before we take the test. The blue book is the best resource to study from and there will be kahoots for them as well online.

7th graders are going to be wrapping up the prep work for the Constitution test this week to take it next week before we go on spring break. We have a couple of topics left to cover and then will start review for it.

Week of March 16th

Posted on Mar 16, 2021

We are continuing our work this week on the Blue Books for the Constitution test. 8th graders are finishing up content this week, starting review and taking a practice test. The plan is to take the actual test on Wednesday, the 24th.

7th graders are continuing on with content this week. Their test will not be for a couple weeks still, but the plan is to be before Spring Break.

Week of March 8th

Posted on Mar 09, 2021

This week we are continuing on with our Constitution material for both grades. 8th grade is about 2/3rds of the way done and are quickly making our way to the test. 7th graders are still a couple weeks out from the test but the nice thing for them is that this is a lot of review.

Week of March 1st

Posted on Mar 02, 2021

Our 7th and 8th graders are going to be looking kind of similar for the next while as they are both preparing for the Constitution test now. Both groups are working in their "Blue Books" and will need to keep good care of them. Any 7th graders that are remote learning that have not picked up their Blue Book from school need to do so as soon as possible.  Both grades are completing a Connecting Current Events this week as well as work out of the books. 8th grade is about a week or so ahead and they will serve as a nice gauge for the 7th graders.

Week of February 22nd

Posted on Feb 22, 2021

Our seventh graders have a test on modules 5-6 at the end of this week. We will be spending the first 3 days of the week reviewing and preparing for it. The test itself is going to be split between Thursday and Friday.

The 8th graders are really diving into their prep work for the U.S. Constitution test. If they are in person, they have been given their books and remote learners need to pick them up if they do not already have them. We will be spending the next 3 or so weeks using these books everyday so they need to have them with them at all times. They will be using them for the Illinois Constitution test as well, so they cannot lose or destroy them.

Week of February 8th

Posted on Feb 09, 2021

We are in a stretch of a couple strange weeks here with Catholic schools week, Iready testing and the ski trip for 8th grade, but we are making our way through. This week, 8th grade is preparing for and taking their test on modules 23-24. The 7th graders are continuing work on module 6, which will be a great background for them to have when we move into the Constitution test.

Week of February 1st

Posted on Feb 01, 2021

As we are in Catholic School Week, we are going to be having some fun as a school but also some in class. 8th graders are starting off their week with some coloring of maps from WW1 to help the connect with countries are allied. We will be looking to have some more activities like this throughout the week. 7th graders are continuing on with our talks about the Constitution and the formation of the government. We have some civics jeopardy to look forward to, as well as some other activities.

Week of January 25th

Week of January 19th

Posted on Jan 20, 2021

This week we are stepping away from our usual learning and talking about a few different things throughout the week in both 7th and 8th grades. Tuesday we are exploring the life and some of the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. With Monday having been a holiday in his honor, this was a great opportunity to talk about him. We will also be going over the tests that they took before break. While they have been able to view their grades on PowerSchool, they have not had the opportunity to go over the tests and see where they may have missed some points. We will finish up this week discussing the current situation of President Trump and his impeachment. We are talking about this strictly from a historical point of view as to what it all means and what may happen in the future depending on the decision made by the Senate, if/ when the case is presented to them.

Week of January 6th

Posted on Jan 07, 2021

Welcome back everyone as we continue on with our second trimester. I hope you all enjoyed your break and are ready to get back to work.

Both 7th and 8th graders will be starting new material as we return here. 7th graders are beginning to look at the forming of the U.S. government and will help to lead into the Constitution test that they will be taking this year.

8th grade is jumping into America becoming a world power and that will lead into WW1. Remember that 8th graders will be taking both the U.S. Constitution test and Illinois Constitution test this year, so we will be getting into those here relatively soon as they take a fair amount of preparation.

Week of December 14th

Posted on Dec 15, 2020

Our 7th graders are finishing up the American Revolution this week. On Monday we will have our last bit of notes and begin reviewing for the test. Tuesday and Wednesday will be review days. While the test is going to be split between Thursday and Friday.

8th grade is doing a couple of different things with the Progressive Era and Gilded Age. On Monday they are playing a game online acting as if they are a reformer during the Progressive Era. For the remainder of the week, they are working on a paper on an important historical figure from this time period. The paper is due by the end of the day on Friday.

Week of November 16th

Posted on Nov 16, 2020

This week, both 7th and 8th graders will be having a quiz on their respective material/ modules. With the trimester coming to a close shortly, we are getting in one more bigger grade for the students.

With the hopes of becoming better historians, I have been stressing to the students the importance of reviewing notes daily and reading the corresponding material in the textbook for homework each night. This is the best way for them to better recognize and remember the material that they will no doubt see again in high school and beyond.

Week of November 2nd

Posted on Nov 03, 2020

This week, 8th graders will be finishing up with module 21 and will be having a test on Friday. We will spend several days in class preparing for the test between working on and going over a review guide and playing a review game.

7th graders will begin their next unit covering modules 3 and 4. We will also be having a connecting current events day this week. Late this week or early next week we will be going over the test that they took last week once all students have taken it.

Week of October 26

Posted on Oct 27, 2020

This week, the 7th graders are preparing for their first test for a couple of days and the test is going to be split between Wednesday and Thursday to give them plenty of time to complete it. 8th grade is working on the 2nd industrial age. We will be having a test following this module so students should be looking over material again from the previous quiz and the new material, as it will all be on the test coming up.

Week of October 19

We will then begin to dive into our material of the Civil war for 8th grade and the Spread of Christianity for 7th. We will be using our ebooks and some of their resources to get the students as familiar with them as possible at the start.

Week of September 8th

Posted on Sep 09, 2020

Hello everyone and welcome to our first week of classes. With this being a short week, we are starting out the year with a focus on getting to know each other, how we are going to look at history and the overall expectations for the class. There is an assignment posted in your google class that is due Friday and I look forward to learning more about everyone through the responses.
