Mrs.Carole Scannell Junior High Reading/Language - 7th

My name is Mrs. Carole Scannell and I am the 7th grade ELA teacher.  I have been a parishioner for more than twenty years, and been involved in a few church activities.  I have taught at a few different schools in the area, but look forward to my new adventure here at St. John Fisher.  My five children are all graduates of St. John Fisher which brings me great pride.

Week of December 16th

Happy Snowy Monday!  The Christmas season is in full swing here in the Junior High, so here is what we are doing this week.  In reading we have started The Giver.  In this novel we are taken into a very different community.  After each chapter we will have chapter questions.  We started chapter One on Friday, so we will start the questions today.  We are going to pay very careful attention to this novel because we will do our Formal Book Analysis when we finish.  I will guide the students along as we do this, so they can learn the process.  In language we are working with different verb forms.  this week we will work with infinitives, past participle and present participle.  In writing the students should be finishing up their essay on the Elephant Man and his courage to face his biggest challenge.  We will take this week off with vocabulary.

Please refurbish the school supplies over break.  Some of the children need a scissors, some glue and colored pencils.  Remember early dismissal on Friday at 11:30.  Have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!!

Week of December 9th

Happy Monday!  This week in reading we are still working on our Literary Analysis of Rudolph.  We have discussed dynamic and static characters and character traits so far, and this week we will cover  the plot tree and conflicts.  We are doing this to practice for our formal book analysis after we read The Giver.  In language we are working on verb tenses.  How do you properly use past tense, and past participle?? In vocabulary we will finish up unit 5 this week and do a writing piece on whether facing a challenge makes us stronger like the Elephant Man had to do.

Reminders:  This Friday, 12/13 is out of uniform with an ugly Christmas sweater.  We are collecting for the Chicago ridge Pads center.  We will also have our sing a long that day as well.
