Mrs.Carole Scannell Junior High Reading/Language - 7th

My name is Mrs. Carole Scannell and I am the 7th grade ELA teacher.  I have been a parishioner for more than twenty years, and been involved in a few church activities.  I have taught at a few different schools in the area, but look forward to my new adventure here at St. John Fisher.  My five children are all graduates of St. John Fisher which brings me great pride.

Week of September 28th

Posted on Sep 27, 2020

Welcome back to our first Monday of Fall.  This week we turn the calendar to October!  This Tuesday, September 29th is School Picture Day...so wear your nice clothes and smile pretty!

In reading this week, we start out with our test on our myth about Icarus.  Then we move onto a story about Women in Aviation, especially an African American woman named Bessie Coleman.  We will begin with our background knowledge and our new vocabulary words.  In language we will be working with verb tense; present, past, and past perfect.  In writing, we are creating our mythological creatures.  As always, we will have our daily Bellringers which go in their spirals to be collected and graded on Friday.

Let's have a fabulous fall and remember all of the safety guidelines while we are at school.

Week of September 21st

Welcome back to another full week of school.  This week in reading, we will read a myth about Icarus and his dad, plus a poem titled "The Flight of Icarus".  Both of these reads will bring up theme and some Latin roots.  We will continue our Bellringers every morning and some new vocabulary words to go with our new stories.  We will spend some time going over the essentials of poetry as well. We are also going to research the author of our poem, Stephen Dobyns and compare some of his other poems with this week's poem, .

My hope is that the students are getting back into a routine of following our new guidelines and getting back into the swing of going to school.  Have a great week!

In writing, we will be doing some research on rogue waves and do some writing on it.  Let's pray for cool weather so everyone is comfortable:)
